Does any of this matter?

Can you get a clear picture from what Sam Harris, the author of The End of Faith, says?

When he says "Does any of this matter?", what does "this" mean? Does "this" refer to whatever Trump says?

Note that one hour ago, Sam tweeted "If you own a MAGA hat, you almost certainly pay more in federal taxes than Trump does", which apparently points out Trump's "hypocrisy".

Sam Harris tweeted 32m ago:
Does any of this matter? Or should we just remove the term "hypocrisy" from the dictionary?

@BarackObama who wants to raise all our taxes, only pays 20.5% on $790k salary. http://1.usa.gov/HFZJKH Do as I say not as I do.

I think "this" probably is referring to Mr. Trump's 2012 condemnation of Mr. Obama for his tax returns.

@oralloy,
The Trump's 2012 tweet had this phrase - "Do as I say not as I do". Who do "I" refer to?

If so, whose "hypocrisy"? Trump's or Obama's?

"Do as I say, not as I do" is a generic phrase that is often used to characterize hypocrisy. It purports to be a command from a person who is telling other people to follow rules that he does not follow himself.

Mr. Trump's 2012 tweet accused Mr. Obama of hypocrisy.

Sam Harris' tweet yesterday accused Mr. Trump of hypocrisy.
