Racism, is it a party thing?

Reply Sat 2 Jul, 2005 03:35 pm
Should be interesting. A few here on a2k have stated that racism is a democrat thing and others have rebutted that it is a republican thing. Now I could do a poll but it has also been pointed out repeately that the dem fruitcakes out number the republican fruitcakes on a2k by a large plurality so that's out of the question. So lets do a simple analysis here in this forum with some parameters such as time frame (end of WW II to current seems realistic to me) also what is the criteria? Should it be legislation proposed and voted on? Presidential actions? State courts? State laws enacted/enforced? or whatever. I also would like to see "racism" as defined as any and all ethnic minority disability via prejudice since "racism" in and off itself is impossible as there is only one human race. In addition, what socio-metrics should be included? Life expentantcy? Household income? Education level attained? What else? Ah yes one more thing, this is about the U S of A not OZ or europe or africa or asia.

Oh. Bad English again, Walter.

Kicky was trying to say(or was it AU) that racists who used to be Democrats all moved over to the GOP.

I said, quite reasonably as usual, that racism was found in all parties, races, and environs.

You should retract your erroneous statement.

And, poo on you.

Just because this is the kinda guy I am. I'm gonna throw a spanner in the hole here. Foxfyre, on another thread pointed out how Eisenhower sent troops to enforce civil rights in the southland. Eisenhower also enacted the Native American Relocation Act which, in effect, gave fed officers orders to go into tribal lands, destroy individual homes, slaughter the live-stock and give the families bus tickets to Denver, San Francisco or St Paul. The intent on the part of Eisenhower was to void and recover all tribal lands of native americans and destroy whatever vestige of culture they may have retained after centuries of genocide. So, all of you can offer your heads side of the dime and the opposition can over the tail side and the dys will ask you all to consider the edge as another side ignored by all of you repeatedly. You are all a bunch of sick puppies and I am serious.

I doubt that you can resolve your question, Dys. Truman forced the integration of the armed forces by executive order--at the same time, Southern racists found a home in the Democratic Party, which like any political party, wanted the votes, and traded upon the traditional Southern hatred of the Republicans, the party of Lincoln. That demographic has changed entirely however, beginning with Johnson's Civil Rights Act (Kennedy's, i suppose one could say, but it was Johnson who knew where all the bodies were buried in Congress, and had the power and the skill to pass Kennedy's agenda) and culminating in the election of Reagan. Those same Southerners who clung to the Democratic party for a century because of their hatred of the Republican Party, are now largely Republicans.

We could analyze this in detail, but i don't believe we could ever come to a satisfactory resolution. Just my opinion, which, when combined with a buck-and-a-half, will get you a bus ride across town.

Hmmm - well, understanding the atavistic reactions is a damn fine first step.

Denying them sucks, acting on them sucks - but, by and large, most of us bump along with our weird looking neighbours well enough, in ordinary times.

Not that bad for a homicidal naked ape.

Racism is not a party thing... it is a religion thing.

The party that courts the white protestants has always supported racist policies. Correct me if I am wrong (Set?). I think this has been the case for at least 200 years.

Today's edge though... is surely an interesting place. Not sure that the edge in the US is right in the middle of the dems and pubs. Not that I can identify it...

In my home state of Colorado, Alfred Packer killed and ate 7 men while snowed in on the side of a mountain. At his sentencing the Judge ordered an extra penalty for having "eaten every democrat in Hinsdale County"
