I would bow to Setanta's expertise in this area. His expert use of hateful remarks and innuendo are famous. My careful attempts have been dwarfed when compared to the masterful work Setanta brings day in and day out.

Could I trouble you to point out which particular remark of mine you have concluded is "hateful." Is it the one where I ask whether liberals think patriotism is a good thing? It's a legitimate question .... just look at the liberal responses on this thread before my first post: D'artagnan thinks flag etiquette is not important; Letty seems to think the National Anthem is a good poem, nothing more; Montana thinks patriotism is overrated; Cyclops threw in a comment he obviously intended to be disparaging toward the national anthem.

I also said something about a bridge ;-)

Just because everyone doesn't revolve their lives around a flag (piece of cloth), the National Anthem (a song), and the war with Iraq (unjustified attack) doesn't mean they are not patriotic. Some people are followers and some are leaders. I never dressed myself to keep up with the latest fad because I'm not a follower. I tend to like to make my own choices in life and not let others "govern" my thoughts.
If that makes me a bad person in your eyes, oh well, my life goes on Razz

I don't understand Conservatives.

They Violate the Constitution using war as a shield.

They constantly attack the First Amendment and other Constitutional protections. Ignoring the very things that make our nation great.

They insist that Christianity is the "religion of the nation" in spite of direct constitutional and historical facts to the contrary.

They regret the civil rights for which Americans fought so hard .

They attack dissent as "un-patriotic" when, since the beginning of our nation Americans recognized the importance of, and protect the rights of dissenters.

You want to make the flag a meaningless symbol by attacking all that it stands for... then you want to bludgeon people into making sure they curtsy correctly when it passes by.

Liberals are far more patriotic than conservatives because we fight for what our flag and our nation truly stand for-- liberty and justice for all.

Conservatives are all about style with no substance.

Like Orwellian pigs, they are trying to make the United States just like the Authoritarian nations they claim to be opposing.

Hello, Eric. You have been missed on the science board, particularly a thread about nuclear explosions in space.

I challenge. Please provide a shred or two of support for your enumerated assertions, because I doubt their veracity.

Now you want evidence to support what is obviously an opinion? ROFLMBO... you are always a wonder Brandon. I'll have to keep this one to use against you when you state an opinion in the future.

I notice you didn't demand that Tico meet the same standards for his opinion.

Because you leftists think it's patriotic to want the US to lose the war in Iraq .. you obviously can't be trusted to determine who is patriotic for yourselves.

Make a statement and then refuse to back it up, isn't that in the Dem play book of debate?

No Baldie it's not the same at all,

Conservatives are right, the truth doesn't need backing up. A liberal Democrat point of view is too out of it to back up anyway.

Have you listened to Air America? These people are so out of it they can't even get a full station of real talk show hosts, they have to get musicians, actors and comedians to headline their main shows. These are people who get paid millions of dollars a year to lie for a living. They are in the perfect medium for it when it comes to liberal talk radio. You should really listen to it some time, it really makes me laugh.

I tried to call into the Randi Rhodes show and she cut me off and hung up on me when I made a point she didn't agree with. The other half of her show when she isn't talking over people she doesn't agree with is letting people kiss her butt.

<looks around, wondering whether he might be the only non-North-American on this thread>

So you've been shouting at each other for 5 pages about who is patriotic and who is not....

Nevertheless, isn't it simply a matter of defining 'patriotism'?

How would you define that term?

Old Europe, what percentage of the citizens in your country know all the words to your national anthem? I'm really just curious.

There is a difference between Patriotism and Nationalism that I don't think Baldie or McG understand.

They both mean love for ones country... but there are different kinds of love.

You can understand the difference by looking at how men love a woman. Some Men love a women for her body, other men love her for who she really is.

Conservatives look at the surface attributes. They want nice clothes, a great appearance and makeup. They take great care that ugliness is covered.

This is why they care so much about at anthems and colors and flags.

Liberals care about what is inside. They don't worry about Americas symbols or armies or always being right. They care about her inside, that she holds to her ideals and that when she is going wrong that she changes direction.

This is why liberals care more about perserving freedom, justice, ending war and abuses at Guantanamo than they do about flags or songs or perserving an aire of infallability.

This is why at times liberals and conservative have such difficulties communicating.

Liberals look with concern at the mind heart and soul of their nation. Conservatives are too busy focusing on her tits.

Well, littlek, we had to learn both the national and the state anthem at school...

I remember a poll that about 47% of all citizens knew the words of the anthem seven or eight years after reunification... But then, the current national anthem is restricted to the third verse anyway.

I've always been worried by all the flags when I went to America... To me, too many national flags mean bad news, but I don't want to impose my views on anybody else.

I've been doing this 'count-the-flags' game with friends: You count all the flags you see between stepping out of your plane at JFK and arriving in your hotel in downtown Manhattan.

Very Happy

Seriously, you wouldn't see so many national flags in a whole year back home!

"Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism. From the prominent displays of flags and bunting to the ubiquitous lapel pins, the fervor to show patriotic nationalism, both on the part of the regime itself and of citizens caught up in its frenzy, was always obvious. Catchy slogans, pride in the military, and demands for unity were common themes in expressing this nationalism. It was usually coupled with a suspicion of things foreign that often bordered on xenophobia."

<sigh>

Air America now being investigated by the Secret Service ....

AIR AMERICA RADIO INVESTIGATED AFTER BUSH 'GUNSHOTS'

**Exclusive**

The red-hot rhetoric over Social Security on liberal talkradio network AIR AMERICA has caught the attention of the Secret Service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Government officials are reviewing a skit which aired on the network Monday evening -- a skit featuring an apparent gunshot warning to the president!

The announcer: "A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn't safe anymore, so he is going to fix it for us. Well, here's your answer, you ungrateful whelp: [audio sound of 4 gunshots being fired.] Just try it, you little bastard. [audio of gun being cocked]."

The audio production at the center of the controversy aired during opening minutes of The Randi Rhodes Show.

"What is with all the killing?" Rhodes said, laughing, after the clip aired.

"Even joking about shooting the president is a crime, let alone doing it on national radio... we are taking this very seriously," a government source explained.

[A Randi Rhodes Fan site is offering an mp3 clip of the broadcast.]

Bush is a real tough guy! He should just tell Air America "Bring it on!" He doesn't need no sissy investigation.
