Reaction on the Arab Street
1. Now this is really startling----they suspect Al Jazeera has lied to them.
2. This is equally startling----they are pretty sure Saddam lied to them about his military power.
3. They are calling for an agonizing reappraisal of their cards.
Dys, I read that too. I don't know what really went down. I've read other versions too. I know what is shown on the video (recorded on my PVR), and after again watching it stop-motion, I can't be sure where the US flag came from. There is some dispute, though I'll grant there is every possibility the flag was brought by the Marines, and may even have been an artifact of the Pentagon Attack. The published accounts vary, and there are both "denials" and "confirmations".
Timber, no kidding, I'm running an Avermedia hooked up to a Directv dish. Fantastic tech eh.....

BillW, isn't that from S & G's "The Boxer?" Or from another S & G?
I actually took the quote from dyslexia - just above, can't say where he got it. BTW - what is S & G? Sodom and Gomorrah
Loco radio late last night, as I was falling asleep, had an interview with Greg Palast. Before or during that interview, someone said that the Air Force Times had printed a story about the administration's plans for re-arming Iraq, with payouts to favorite corporations for doing the job. I reached over in the dark and scribbled a note to myself to look for the story but have not found it. Anyone else heard anything about this? Usually it's the Army Times that comes out with stuff like this -- but my note reads in large, clear letters, AIR FORCE TIMES.
Mine is UltimateTV/DirecTV, Gel. I really like the dual-tuner feature.
BillW, S&G is Simon and Garfunkel.
Billw Simon and Garfunkle
Yes, 'The Boxer'
I am just a poor boy
Though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles such are promises
All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
as a dead beat dope smoking poet i took liberties with S & G
Tartarin
They will need some stuff to replace all that Russian and French junk that didn't do very well. The plan is to sell them some stuff that was left over from the Vietnam war.
Tartarin, given that most of Iraq's pre-attack armaments and other military and civil police hardware have been rendered useless, the matter of providing for Iraqi self defense and maintainance of internal order is receiving considerable attention. It would be logical that replacement equipment not be of Russian or French origin, as was the bulk of Iraq's previous equipment. That rather reduces the pool of available vendors.
