Not buying any gasoline right now. Too expensive--clearly not a good investment opportunity...

Odd. Cheaper in Hawaii than New Mexico. Maybe the further they ship it, the less it costs?

I lived in Denver when the Shah's government was toppled. Prices hit a buck a gallon. Aspen was about .20 cheaper. Ya' see? The further they have to haul it, the cheaper it gets. I mean, like, are there lots of oil wells in New York City?

Could be a good thing for Grand Junction, CO, remember shale oil? Well after the first oil crisis all the biggies (oil companies) came for shale oil and the Junction boomed. Then it passed and like over night those guys were gone, gone, gone. Maybe they will be back.

I saw this somewhere else ??? within the last day or so, but Mr. M. just forwarded it home to me. It must be making the rounds.

You think a gallon of gas is expensive?
To make one think and to put things in perspective, check out these prices:

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ... $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ... $9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ... 10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz 1.25 ... $10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ... $33.60 per gallon
Vicks Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismal 4 oz $3.85 ... $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ... $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 ... $84.48 per gallon

And here's the real kicker:
Evian Water 9 oz $1.49 ... $21.19 per gallon!
$21.10 for water! And the buyers don't even know the source.
So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water.

In Eastern WA it's $1.72 to $1.78 for the cheapest unleaded.

ok 5 12packs of Dr. Pepper Products are selling for $10.00 this week at Albertson's, so that's well pretty cheap - wonder if I can get my Toyota to run on Dr. Pepper. Smile

I understand that the shale project is continuing in either Rifle or Parachute, Co, as a pilot project.

$2.03/gallon, two days ago, in Humboldt County, California. I remember gasoline being between 4 and 5 dollars a gallon when I was in Italy.

Well, ossobuco, that's what we have to pay for in all Eurepoan countries - more or less, and much more nowadays.

Roger the last of the oil shale work in western colorado ended in 1991 when Unocal closed shop. there remains some natural gas development but at an estimated cost of $60 bbl to produce refinable gasoline there is not likely to be a forseeable future for oil shale development. Wink

I'm still remembering the 1973 'oil crisis' here in Germany: we (= 'normal' citizens') were not allowed to use cars on Sundays and the autobahns looked like this:

When you, however, look at the graphs at this webside, you may really wonder, why that was done ...

I thought so, Walter, and that puts an interesting light to the question. Doesn't most of the world pay more than we in the US do?

I read today that the actor Woody Harrelson has a documentary about his traveling in a van across the US to promote environmental values, vegetarianism and what all. But here's the kicker: The vehicle was apparently fueled by hempseed oil!

Now why isn't the Bush Administration considering this as an alternative source of fuel? Sounds more realistic than hydrogen!
