Now, if you had said that the derivation of echphobia is, in part, of Germanic derivation, Aa, I would conclude that the word means 'a real fear.' :)Danon will know what I'm talking about, Smile

with a K it would derive someone "cornered" in fear............... now that would not be a good thing.

(ie. eck = corner, angle, etc.)

Whoooooooo hoooooooooo!

Peace and Love's birthday is today.
As is Buttercup, Mrs. Cavfancier's.

Happy birthday to them both.

Thanks, ehBeth! I'm in the wilderness of BC at the mo', but I did travel through Washington state today...it's so amazing, and yet devastating seeing the logging trails through the mountains...

Hi, Buttercup! Happy belated b'day.

For those not getting the 'groaner" -- echt=real in German.

Don't worry sumac,
German jokes aren't traditionally funny to anyone not German. I've have German jokes explained in detail to me and still it wasn't funny. Besides, if a joke must be explained - it isn't funny. grin

Happy B'Day Buttercup.

All clicked Ya'll.

g'day all ~

Hi Buttercup! Welcome to the rainforest thread!

Hope you're having a good vacation!!

California has kept the roadless rule in tact for the state, so we'll not be seeing the distrution of pristene forests. Sadly, other states haven't forced the issue, and are allowing old tree growth distruction.

Keep clicking ya all ~

How well I remeber the clothes line-post hole day. That was also the beginning of the wild clickers in the green chevette. And the big black hat.
Aa, don't stay away so long next time - it's so good to wander through the etemology - please feel free to correct my spelling- I've tried it with a, i and o but nothing looks right.

Oh, that is wonderful, ehBeth. A back yard says volumes about a person. If, as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, then - you are a very unique and special person - IMHO.

Thanks !!

In the past couple of weeks we've had odd weather, with sunny days interspersed with rain. This has included some thunder and lightning, which is unusual in this area. Farther upcountry, in the high Sierras, electrical storms are more common. Yesterday there were spells of rain and hail amid the day's brightness. No wonder the local creeks and rivers are producing torrents of waterflow, with Yosemite Valley flooded in places.

Ah, well, one can console oneself with traditional merriment and folk customs.
Hooray, hooray, the first of May -
outdoor [bleep]ing begins today.

Not good news for the silver birch, sumac. Sad

Spring cleaning all done though! Hurray!

Sorry about the birch, Stradee.

Cool weather, some overcast, and just about ready to apply the final mulch. Tired of planting and moving plants around. Time to sit down and relax.

Loved the photo, ehBeth. What public place do you like to use to put your photos up so that you can use them here?

Thanks! It is a rather bright back yard - I'm a fan of hot gardens. A friend has a classic cool garden - only green, white and blue/lavender plants/leaves/flowers. Beautiful, but I'm never warm there.

sumac, I have an account at imageshack that I use for getting photos on line. I like them as they're very intuitive.

Thanks, ehBeth. I thought as much. I am floundering between too many, none of which is quite right. One won't resize, one won't send emails, one won't allow posting additional ones up into the same album (have to start a new one), etc.
