Hiya
I decided to stop taking the pill after my last period.
Its been just over 5 weeks since I stopped taking it,ie my due period is a week late.Im not worried as i have no reason to think it should be late, if ya know what I mean, but itsjust a bit annoying.
Does anyone have any experience of when its likely to turn up?
Thanks
I can't take the pill but from what I know about it... once you stop it your period can either stop for a month or maybe more or you can get your period for more than a month long!! It depends on your body and how it reacts... I know a girl who stopped for only a few days and she wouldn't stop bleeding... poor thing..... it will probably turn up next month and if it doesn't talk to your doctor!
Hehe, thats ok.Im not blaming you for my eggs not doing there thing.
Im just not looking forward to my next period as they were painful without the pill and pre pill it once went on for 3/4 weeks and usually turned up whenever it wanted!
sometimes it can take a year.
your body has to readjust to the lack of hormones that are now introduced into it. It has to up-its own production, or slow it down.. etc.. etc.. etc. and get back into balance. I have heard some women say it wasnt until 9 mos later that they were regular. Some say a few days. it all depends on your body but understand that what is normal for one woman ISNT normal for all.
If you are expereinceing ' period like symptoms' but no blood.. call your doc. right away.
Symptoms with no period are -
Mood swings, bloating, discharge ( usually clear, sticky) cramps, maybe even spotting . The spotting will be brown.
( ug, sorry for the graphic description.. but that is what it is) localized pain that may be mistaken for cramps is a biggie too. You can tell the diffrence in localised pain vs cramping.. but you might mistake it for cramping since it is in the general area of the uterus.
Please dont apologise.Thats what I like about this forum,we can swear and use the proper names for stuff!!
Re mood swings Ive noticed Ive been unnaturally happy(for me) the last couple of weeks,Re bloating, less bloated than I have been for months, teeny tiny bit of spotting/discharge a week back.
Which brings me to another thing-Ive not been a happy bunny for a few years(I put it down to crap job, no boyfriend etc), do you think it could be the pill adding to my dark moods whilst on it?
On average it takes about 3 months for the body to get rid of all the effects of the pill. That is why doctors suggest you use another method of birth control for 3 months after stopping the pill if you are trying to get pregnant. It did take me 3 months to be “regular” again. But then I was also pretty much right on the money regular type.
Im not looking to get pregnant/dont have a boyfriend, I seem to repell men so I dont have to worry about that side of things(sob sob).
I just wanted ot give my body a quick break, but if I do meet someone Id like to go back on it as an extra contraceptive.
I was thinking of having this next period and start taking it again the period after that.Would that be ok?

Sure could have been. I've been a different person since switching my pills.

You do know you have to now wait another 3 months before you are "covered", right?
Why did you feel you needed to take a break?
yes the effects of the pill can very well be what is making you depressed.
Seratonin absorption is semi directly effected by estrogen levels in women. I would say that depression during/after taking the pill is the fault of the hormones in the pill by about 80%
hey bella, post a link to that thread you started about the estrostep.
that way she can read the topics we covered there too.
No,what do you mean Bella re waiting 3 months?
I assume the pill starts working more or less once you start taking it.
Again I have no man and as I havnt met one in 2 years its unlikely to happen in the next 3 months.
I use condoms as contraception as well.
I started spotting about a week before my period was due(ie Id be on for 2 weeks/half my menstrual life) so I thought if I came off it for a while it may 'rejig' things.
Maybe shewolf can answer this better but I was always told that when you first start taking your pills (or after an extended stop) it is 3 months of straight taking before you are protected at the 99.9% rate.
Here is the
link.
Blimey, thats interesting, I didnt know that!
if it isn't true, I will be so pissed....
I took anitbiotics (and they do lose some effectivness when you take antibiotics) and I had to have protected sex for a whole month after to be safe. And I never stopped taking my pills. Maybe my doctor was just overly protective. Dunno.
Im a condom girl anyway so thats a layer of protection but its nice to have 2 forms of contraception. And not knowing any attractive guys worth doing it with, that makes 3!!!!
I started to take it as I wanted to regulate my periods, it worked well.
Il bare the '3 month not covered' thing in mind for the future.
Hope your love life wasnt too disrupted and that its now back on track.
I believe it is a two week wait after beginning the pill that the birth control effects take place-look at the instructions in your pill pack. The three month period is typical just to get the effect of the hormones out of your system (whether you want to get pregnant or not). I would always question my doctor on this first. And as far as taking a “rest” from the pill, I really don’t understand that. At least according to everything I have read and spoken with my doctor about, there is no benefit to giving your body a break from the pill, but I could be wrong.
It is best to use a condom anyway until you are confident that your partner could not have any type of VD, AIDS or any other problems. Always better to be safe than sorry. But simply for prevention of pregnancy – you can’t beat 99.9% (except of course with abstinence).
Linkat, you are right. There is no medical reason for your body to - take a rest- from the pill.
ONLY.. and I stress... ONLY if there is a question of female cancer is it necessary for a woman to take a break from the pill. Simply because some of the hormones found in the pill have been questioned in feeding certain cancer cells.
RARE cases have popped up where that was necessary.
But again.. always talk to your doctor first.
