What constitutes a fling?

I've read several references to the word, here and, of course, elsewhere. So what do we think a "fling" really is? What does it include? Is it always not serious? Does it always include sex? (To the latter, I'd say not necessarily. But usually?) Thanks in advance.

@Longhorn64,
What constitutes a "fling" can be very subjective. What my wife would consider a fling may be very different than what I consider a fling. And if her idea of a fling is more all inclusive than mine, then it would be best for me to adhere to her definition. lol
