Also, 70% of the country is middle of the road; there's nothing wrong with that.

@Lash,
People like you helped elect Trump with your my way or the highway. Berne did nothing for the party nor has he done so yet. But you expected the party to go for your candidate against Hillary who had worked for the Democratic party most of her life and supported democratic candidates unlike Berne who was only interested in his candidacy. The Democrats voted for Hillary as their candidate in voting elections and Berne won the elections where a minority of people voted. If he runs again it will only help Trump which is what you are hoping for I suspect.

@RABEL222,
WE've been through this endlessly for two years. Trump is the culmination of the morass of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama era, triggered by Reagan's voodoo economics. Both parties are responsible for Trump and mainstream Democrats and Republicans hold on to the same delusions that if held to will swamp the nation long after Trump is gone.

...are not the entire Democratic party platform. Nor do you or I know if they'd oppose campaign fiance reform.

https://democrats.org/about/party-platform/#campaign-finance
Quote:
FIXING OUR BROKEN CAMPAIGN FINANCE SYSTEM
Democrats believe we must fight to preserve the essence of the longest standing democracy in the world: a government that represents the American people, not just a handful of powerful and wealthy special interests. We will fight for real campaign finance reform now. Big money is drowning out the voices of everyday Americans, and we must have the necessary tools to fight back and safeguard our electoral and political integrity.

Democrats support a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s decisions in Citizens United and Buckley v. Valeo. We need to end secret, unaccountable money in politics by requiring, through executive order or legislation, significantly more disclosure and transparency—by outside groups, federal contractors, and public corporations to their shareholders. We need to amplify the voices of the American people through a small donor matching public financing system. We need to overhaul and strengthen the Federal Election Commission so that there is real enforcement of campaign finance laws. And we need to fight to eliminate super PACs and outside spending abuses.

Our vision for American democracy is a nation in which all people, regardless of their income, can participate in the political process and can run for office without needing to depend on large contributions from the wealthy and the powerful.

@maporsche,
When they have been in power they make minor changes in government. They are just as wedded to big money. Since Johnson every democratic president has been a conservative light passing laws that benefit mostly big business. The only thing they have passed to help the individual is Obama care over the objection of many democrats. I mostly vote democratic knowing I will get a better deal out of them than republicans. But the party could give the little guy much more help than they do.

They haven't often been in enough power to make anything but minor changes.

Hence, we need more of them.

Being rich isn't evil.

Being rich doesn't make you against campaign finance reform.

You're not making sense.

I agree, and I never said either were true. What does make sense does not seem to interest you in the least.

@coldjoint,
More of your cheap b s. Damn near all legislators are millionaires whether republican or democrats. What average citizen can run for congress without the help of big money which makes them beholden to the people financing them. Term limits and stopping spending over a certain limit and federal spending help might get the average Joe in office. You know, the guy that really knows how far an average paycheck goes when one docent have a billion dollars in the bank.

A person with lots of money is not necessarily an entity that bribes governments. When I wax poetic about big money, it's a given that I am not wildly blaming everyone with more money than me. The point should be evident without me having to spell it out.

It's good that you clarified that point. There are many rich people like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett (and many other rich folks) who are generous to all peoples, not only in this country, but to causes like feeding the poor, and providing medical care. Many middle class families also give generously to charities. Even Lawrence O'Donnell has gotten involved in providing school desks to children in Africa. I'm sure there are many more examples out there that we never hear about.
