I wonder why present tense is not used: Isn't "Cuomo: Trump betrays country as exercise in vanity" better than "Cuomo: Trump betrayed country as exercise in vanity"?

Why would you use the present tense?

Isn't there historical present which makes things more vivid?

Note the fact that Trump's vanity continues. A present tense can serve as a pun here.

Everything you said is true, Ori, but speakers do have personal choices. If his focus was on a particular event then ...ed is fine.
