Chicago style hot dogs are an artform in and of themselves. But no ketchup please - just mustard.

Catsup makes a great shrimp cocktail sauce with lemon juice and real horseradish. My mother made meatloaf with catsup just poured on top then baked. I like catsup with scrambled egg sandwiches. Cheap eats at the Union cafeteria when I was in college was the famed fried egg/one slice American, pickles and catsup grilled sandwich. I like margarine for grill cheese sandwiches better for they are less greasy than with butter.

I grew up near Chicago and lived my young adult life in Illinois. Joe's Hot Dogs in Joliet was very famous. Their sign with all the variations possible clearly stated that catsup was NOT an option. And I did love the chopped fresh tomato instead. I crave even now their true Chicago hotdogs!

Surprised no one mentioned the horror of the colored catsups marketed now for children? I could never bring myself to try anything made with the bright green or bright blue catsup!

Maybe so but we are all enjoying our French fries swimming in ketchup, hot dogs slathered in mustard and sauerkraut, and a crunchy dill pickle on the side. True American cuisine.

Fries must have cider vinegar and ground big chunky pepper.
A hot dog can be very tasty with tiny chopped strong onions (nunothis wallawalla, or other
dessert" onions) Pillsudsky horseradish mustard and Tabasco mixed with ketchup. Damn good eats

Take yer hollandaise, add yer tarragon , then spoon it on a nice medium rare (with a crust) hunk of rib eye. You can sop up the leavins with some johny cake made with jalepenos in there

That's exactly how C. cried when she tried my fries with double hot chinese mustard. She went back to ketchup and salt and pepper, tho she did swirl the mustard into the ketchup for one.

I kinda like that Vietnamese carrot salady stuff - it's vinegar and peppers and hot poison - made my ears sweat the first time I tried it.

If you want to gross ole edgar out (maybe risk bodily injury even) just slop some okra on the plate. Yucko and puke even.

No Trader Joe's in Canada, but I can get Wasabi Peas at Bento Nouveau.
Thank goodness I've got some cassava chips to take off the edge this thread was creating.

I like the horseradish/mustard hot of wasabi.

As for hot,hot I like the flavor of habenero but only in small doses.
I use gloves when slicing the dime thin slices of habenero for my omeletes or cajun dishes.

If you like hot sauce check out Melinda's.
This is the best hot sauce I have had.
