I have read each and every post on this thread, and can add nothing that has not already been expressed in a far better way. Except to acknowledge in a quiet way the truly amazing depth of feeling each and every one has shown to a fellow human being who is, and I suspect will remain, a part of this compassionate community.
It is indeed an honour to be associated with such sentiment.
Cav would have none of this melancholy stuff. He'd jump right in to lighten the mood. I'm quite sure he's leading the group on the other side of the looking glass in a chorus of Chuck Berry's My Ding-a-ling just to make them laugh.
When I was a little bitty boy
my grandmother bought me a cute little toy
Silver bells hangin' on a string
she told me it was my ding a ling
My ding a ling, my ding a ling
I want to play with my ding a ling
My ding a ling, my ding a ling
I want to play with my ding a ling
And then mother took me to Grammer School
But I stopped all in the vestibule
Every time that bell would ring
catched me playin' with my ding a ling
Once I was climbing the garden wall
I slipped and had a terrible fall
I fell so hard I heard bells ring
but held on to my ding a ling
Once I was swimming cross Turtle creek
many snappers all around my feet
Shure was hard swimming cross that thing
with both hands holdin' my ding a ling
This here song it ain't so sad
the cutest little song you ever had
those of you who will not sing
You must be playin' with your own ding a ling
My ding a ling Your ding a ling, your ding a ling
We saw you playin' with your ding a ling
My ding a ling everybody sing
I want to play with my ding a ling
See you on the other side of the looking glass, Paul.

I think Cav would have wanted us to get a little A2K wake party started with some Cav recipes. I brought a few bottles of white zinfandel and plan to grill some steaksÂ…what is everyone else is bringing?
My heart is in my mouth
and it tastes of ashes
it needs a spice and
I am all out
I'm reminded, as I think of cav, and about how kind and loving everyone has been, of the story of stone soup.
A poor man placed a stone in a cooking pot with some water, and began to heat it up. He had nothing else, just water, an old pot and a tiny bit of firewood. And a stone.
A farmer came by and asked the man what he was cooking. The farmer said, "I bet an onion would taste good in that soup." And so he sliced an onion in and the stone and the onion cooked together.
The miller came by and asked about the soup. He decided to throw in some flour.
The baker came by and added salt.
The tailor came by and added a few carrots he had.
The butcher added some bones.
The blacksmith added some pepper.
The dairy maid added milk, fresh from the cow.
A passing traveler added some peas.
A little boy added some tomatoes from the garden.
The apprentice added some beans.
The knight added a little wine.
Pretty soon the entire town was there, and everyone had added something. The poor man announced, "It is ready!"
Everyone lined up with a bowl and had some soup. They all proclaimed it the best they had ever tasted. "It's gourmet!" said the mayor.
"It's like my mother used to make." said an old woman.
"It tastes like love. And community. And fellowship." said the poor man. And it was true. The rest of the town agreed and took up the chant.
"It tastes like caring!"
"It tastes like happiness!"
"It tastes like friendship!"
"It tastes like peace!"
"It tastes like kindness!"
"It tastes like love!"
butrfly, you are absolutly right.
Nice retelling, Jes.
I have the weirdest feeling. I'm hoping that ehBeth or BoGoWo or Buttercup or all of them will stop in with their impressions of the funeral. It's somewhat like the feeling I have waiting for someone to stop by with impressions of a gathering. And I guess it is similar, in a way -- but so much sadder.
(Hi Butrflynet, good to see you.)
I too have been hanging out for a while waiting for news of how things went.
Not like things are going to be EVENTFUL... but.. still, just waiting.
I think it is just waiting for the end. Almost like a confirmation of some sort.. I dont know.
Hey, who put the rock in the soup? I think I just chipped my tooth.
Has anyone suggested that we take the necessary steps to have Cav's avatar officially retired? It would be a bit disconcerting to have some newbie prancing in with Cav's avatar, especially if the newbie was some raving political lunatic or some such thing.
Okay Gus, what kind of ritual do you think we should use?
Here's a excerpt of a poem I wrote earlier...
We'll resurrect your avatar
The witty poetic clown
And place it in the golden vault
For it belongs to you alone
colorbook - I was thinking of starting a thread for everyone to bring a Cavfancier dish, which would mean finding one of Cav's recipes and posting it as a virtual contribution.
Not only would we then have a fabulous virtual feast, but all of his recipes would be gathered in one thread for easy reference.
I don't know how many recipes he actually posted here... But if you want to start the thread I will find the easiest one to make and prepare it for everyone.
That sounds good squinney...post the link here
Hm, I guess that the burger company that presently uses that clown would agree, especially since cavs wish does not exactly put their product in a good light.
Avatar history: The original was from the avatar gallery, jpinmilwaukee modified it for Cav to write/erase the board.
I had suggested that before gus, but dont know how to do it?
I am also not sure that the MOD's would remove an avatar just because someone asked? Or even if they CAN?
Why do you always insist on stealing my thunder, shewolf? Why?
<walks away scratching head, trying to come up with another Cav memorial idea>
I don't think his avatar should be removed, but, if someone else tries to wear it, they will be asked to take it off and choose another avatar.
ohhh gus. :-(
im sorry,
( hands thunder back )
here ya go....
I looked for it earlier and couldn't find it. May have missed it or it may have already been done.
Colorbook - Does that mean you're handing it back to me? You brought it up first, so go ahead if you like. Will take me a while to find one with ingredients I recognize.
