Where does corporate responsibility start on the issue of institutionalized racism? Starbucks

I live in NYC. I am aware of assholes of every color, creed, gender, and species. Love pigeons but some can be some real big asses.

What evidence do you have that these guys were assholes?

I suspect maybe Breitbart, Fox News, etc... stories on the incident this week?

@Finn dAbuzz,
You read the headline instead of watching the video. You’re not open to the facts. Why are you so invested in refusing to acknowledge the facts around what happened?

@ehBeth,
How you interpreted my comment to mean that is beyond me unless, of course, you actually contend you are an authority on the two subjects.

@Lash,
I read a very detailed report on what happened that is far more credible than this two minute BS tale. Unfortunately, I can't recall the source or I would provide a link. I assure you it's not alt-right or anything like that but idiots here will contend otherwise.

Even if this involved a poor decision by the manager it doesn't mean she is a racist and it certainly doesn't mean Starbucks is a racist company.

From what I read the two men were assholes. The color of their skin didn't make them so as there is a legion of white assholes as well.

The protests afterward involved another asshole shouting through a bullhorn at an employee of the shop who had nothing to do with the incident.

If you want to destroy Starbuck after this highly questionable incident, please do so. I love when you lefties eat your own.

@Finn dAbuzz,
Finn,

The fact that the White customers were filming the arrest, and clearly supporting the people being arrested "They didn't do anything" is pretty damning in my opinion. You are probably correct that people are probably pushing the facts (with the 2 minute thing).

But that doesn't mean that Starbucks didn't react badly. It also doesn't mean that Black people are more likely to be mistreated than White people in general. Having raised two boys of color who were followed around in stores and treated with suspicion by people around them, I know this is the case.

@Finn dAbuzz,
I’d like to see that detailed report because it is directly contradicted by witnesses and video.

I’m not mad at Starbucks in the least. It was obviously a couple of managers with either racial aggression or fear.

This isn’t a good look for you.

@maxdancona,
Why because typically white people are racists?

It's pretty clear that there are a whole lot of white people in America who are ready willing and able to jump on an off the track train if it involves race. Some of them even declare they are black --- trans-racial.

How did Starbucks react badly? (Unless you agree with my opinion on how they did)

Here we go again with your kids of color.

What is the definition of "of color"

My kids are essentially the same ethnic mix as yours and never had a problem, despite their swarthy complexions.

@Finn dAbuzz,
You’ve been speaking straight on a wide variety of issues for an extended period, and I’d taken notice—I imagine some others had too—and this was an unexpected (to me) indicator that you aren’t as thoughtful in your analysis as I’d thought.

If you don’t care, I certainly don’t.

I respect your opinion but it doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

I believe I've been very thoughtful here.

@Finn dAbuzz,
If I were in Starbucks, and someone were acting like an asshole, I would not object to them being hauled out of there by the police. You weren't there. I wasn't there. But the people who were there sided clearly with the people being arrested.

I don't know why you are in this particular fight Finn.

I also know that men of color (including my sons) do feel rightfully upset at how they are viewed by people who don't consider themselves racist.

First of all, any time you call the police to arrest your customers... and bystanders are on the side of the customers... you are screwing up. Arresting people in your store is generally considered "acting badly" unless they are bothering other customers (which obviously they aren't).

Second... My kids are not "swarthy. They look like your stereotypical Latinos. I have no way to compare the "ethnic mix" of your kids versus my kids. Nor, do I have any idea of why your kids were luckier than mine. What happened to my kids really bothered me.

I would guess my definition of "of color" might have to do with whether you are followed around in stores. If your kids avoided this indignity, I am happy for them.

@Finn dAbuzz,
You don’t have to agree with my opinion, but if you want to be considered rational, you should agree with the facts. They’ve been widely and consistently reported—with the one exception of the single report you cite yet cannot show.
