Certainly.
You don't strike me as a heavy drinker, J_B. But if anyone has a problem with that, we have a nice selection of non-alcoholic wines, too.
Overeaters, however, should probably go elsewhere. Sophie's creations are always tempting. And impossible to resist.
The most delicate and exquisite dishes are to be found here (thanks to dear Eva). But quality is incompatible with quantity...
Ah, but you may have both here, Francis!
Eva, the dessert trays look scrumtious, but I will have one ripe strawberry to go with my champgne. Well, maybe two.
Since osso has been staying with us for a few weeks, we have had some incredible meals. She loves cooking, especially Italian; Dys and I start to drool as soon as those lovly aromas start filling the rooms with temptation. Hmmm, I wonder if she could be talked into staying???
Or at least bringing you leftovers, I'd think. After all, you'll be neighbors, right?
Her new house sounds like it must be very close to yours.
ohhh, yum! Those look delicious. You're right, Eva. I'm not a heavy drinker although I've done my share. Given some genetic tendencies to overdo alcohol, I tend to drink less and less often. I do enjoy a good glass of wine though or a nice single malt scotch.
By special request, Sophie has made some of her old-fashioned lemon squares for us today. I just love lemon squares, don't you? They just melt on your tongue. Takes me back to my childhood.....
Eva, I have a confession to make, I'm afraid.
I staggered in here last night, blind drunk, horny and hungry.
Seeing as there were no females in the place, I thought I'd make do with a sandwich, but you were out of bread.
Lurching behind the counter, I had a quick search around and could only find a stale meat pie.
Being ravenous, I quickly microwaved it 'til it was warm, and ate it in four bites. Stale and rather on the hard, dry side, but satisfying all the same.
Having now sobered up and spoken to your barmaid, it would appear that I have consumed Jerry, your pet turtle.
Sorry!
<hides head in shame, and quietly walks out of the door, leaving Eva standing at the bar, mouth wide open>
Oh, LordE.
I'm so sorry to tell you this, but we have no barmaids here (just Jacques), no stale meat pies, no microwaves and no turtles. None at all. Not a single one.
I'm afraid that in your drunken stupor you must have wandered into Naughty Nero's next door. This might explain that cryptic note I found on our door this morning...
I have no idea who this "Signatus" is, but I suspect you must resemble him. Probably one of the riffraff that hangs around there, I suppose. Big Eddie, who runs NN's, is (or was?) very fond of his turtle. If that was Daisy you ate, and they got you on their security camera, it might be a good idea if you spent a few days at the coast.
<tapping side of nose with index finger, whilst winking at Eva>
If anyone asks, you haven't seen me, right?
Was somebody talking? I thought I heard a voice...
<giggles>
Who was that caped man I didn't see leaving the cellar?
I didn't see a thing, Diane!
Not the British Airways ticket stubs, not the leftover turtle shell, not even the empty bottle of Courvoisier. Nope, not a thing.
What can I get for you this morning, sweetie?
May I invite you for a glas of wine to a jazz club? Claude Lutter is playing tonight. (
Fidgety Feet was playing on last Friday, when I had dinner there, in the
Petit Journal Saint Michel on the boulevard Saint Michel)
(L' escalope de veau est vraiment superbe et très recommandable!)
(I'll start a new thread with some impressions from my Paris trip and lots of pics from the Musée d'Orsay as soon as I've scanned the photos :wink: )
Wow, pictures from Musee d'Orsay; hurry up, there, Walter. Looking forward to a revisit to one of my favorite museums in Paris.
One of my favorites too, Walter! First time I ever saw a Henri Rousseau with my own two eyes, it was at the Orsay.
Anyone hungry or thirsty?
Well, well...I haven't been here in ages.
<brushing cobwebs off doorway>
It doesn't look as though anyone else has, either. But wait...there's a note behind the bar. Ah, I'd recognize that handwriting anywhere...all those flourishes...
Eva, my dear,
When I didn't hear from you for a month, I decided this would be a good time to visit friends in Nice. Sophie came with me. I know this will come as no surprise, but we have been talking about getting away together for some time. You understand, of course. Whenever you return, just give us a call. You know the number. We can be back within 24 hours.
Jacques
So those two finally got together! I knew it! The last time I saw them, I thought something was up. All those sidelong glances and fumbling...Jacques must have dropped half my glassware! Ah well, at least it was for a good cause.
And...how nice to have Nice friends! But I'm afraid I'll have to call them.
<dialing>
Jacques?...Hello! It's Eva...Yes, (laughs)...it's really me!.....Are you and Sophie enjoying your time away?.........Really?!......That's true, Nice isn't as much fun in the wintertime........I do have a favor to ask you, actually......Would you mind coming back to the Wine Cellar for awhile?......Yes, I'm thinking of a New Year's Eve celebration......What's that?...Oh, yes! Do order plenty of champagne, if you think we really need it. But there is still an old case in the cellar.....Too old, you think?...Well, what should I do with it?......LOL! Good idea! I'll talk to you tomorrow when you get back! (laughing).....<click>
How great! They're coming! We'll have a real party on New Year's Eve!
<Looking around> I really must get this place cleaned up.
But first, I need to use up that old champagne.........<giggles>
Well, I'm sitting here alone and lonely for some time now, Eva obviously left as well ...
