Looks like I agreed with Spendius, when I was agreeing on the tree thing. But... thanks, I think, Spendi. Whatever. It's too late to improve my diction etc.

It's okay. I'm perfectly capable of following more than one train of thought at a time!

And Osso....don't change a thing. Spendius is right. You do have a charming style of speech. What are you drinking? I forgot. I'll get you another...

But I refused because nothing grows under large trees.

That is not true.Toadstools and puffballs grow under large trees.I'm a country boy and I have seen many of those sorts of things.Mushrooms need very low lighting conditions.I have grown them. Some ladies also prosper in shaded conditions.

The metaphor is second rate.

Many things grow under some large trees.
Few things grow under some others, such as some of the varieties of eucalyptus.
The metaphor works well enough for me.
Some people do survive and thrive under large tree people.
Many don't.

I find the best way to avoid seasickness, is to sit under a tree.

Large Corvoisier please. No Ice.....my teeth are a bit itchy today, must be the weather.

Lord Ellpus, I'm gonna have to remember "I find the best way to avoid seasickness, is to sit under a tree." when my wife refuses to go on our next cruise. LOL

Hello C.I., alas, I cannot take credit for this, as it is a little "one liner" from my biggest comedy hero, Spike Milligan.

Spike had a comedy brain that was years ahead of its time.

If it wasn't for him, there would have been no Monty Python, as when his humour hit the British public, about twenrty years before the Pythons, he changed our whole comedy scene forever.

He also had a very deep side, as he was a manic depressive, like other famous comedians. So he also produced some far reaching and thought provoking stuff, mainly poetry.

Example (Osso will like this one)

A young spring-tender girl
combed her joyous hair
'You are very ugly' said the mirror.
But, on her lips hung
a smile of dove-secret loveliness,
for only that morning had not
the blind boy said,
'You are beautiful'?

He excelled at utter nonsense, though.

When asked how long he had been in the army, he replied "Five foot eleven". Marvellous!

Spike created the Goon Show, an extremely popular comedy series on radio. Utterly brilliant nonsense....later on, during an interview, he was once talking about Eccles, his favourite Goon Show character.
"Eccles represents the permanency of man, his ability to go through anything and survive. They are trying to get off a ship on the Amazon and lower a boat. When they get to the shore Eccles is already there. "'How did you get ashore?'

"'Ho hum, I came across on that log.'

"'Log... that's an alligator!'

"'Ooh. I wondered why I kept getting shorter.'"

Now you may see where my literary influence comes from............

If you want to read all about him, there is this......

Spike also said that everybody is the result of a f**k.Which was a little humbling I remember thinking when he said it.

And Tristram Shandy has his mother say at the time to his father-"Pray,my dear, have you not forgot to wind up the clock."

Oh wow! What a splendid group of guests we have here today! I hope you will forgive me...your hostess has been remiss. Oh, oh, I just hate myself! Jacques and Sophie will be back in a couple of days. They are so much better at this. <wrings hands>

Let's see now, quickly, what did everyone order? Ah yes, chocolates for Osso...

Courvoisier for Ellpus...

And a nice plate of toadstools for Spendius.

My order looks like our scullery maid. Good with pots and pans though, and never causes any bother with boyfriends hanging around.

The large light brown area in the top left quadrant is not a toadstool. It is the mummified head of a guillotined French aristocrat. And smack dead centre a devlish gargoyle.

I'll have a can of Hienz Scotch Broth if you don't mind.Gently heated whilst stirring and not boiled served with crispy cobs of wholemeal.Osso will appreciate the gourmet offering better than I.
