In 1950, getting married at that age was pretty much the norm, right? 1999? A whole new world.

Actually, I have to agree that it was the norm back then. Both my mother and my husband's mother married at 18, in the late 1940's.

My mother once told me she married so young because "that's just what you did back then." I think if you went out and got a job back then, you would have been counted as a rebel.

Damn fools--whatever the age on the wedding certificate--alway marry "too young".

Ain't it the truth, Noddy...

When I married the first time, I was 19. Hubby was 24. However, I was more ready for marriage than he was.

Was I too young? Hmm. I wasn't experienced enough to know a bad relationship when it came along. So in that sense, I guess I was too young. But had I married a better person, I would probably still be married to them. I was mature enough at 19 to handle the responsibility.

The concept of 'the old maid' was still very much alive in 1950.

And too was marriage and that quaint tradition of having children in wedlock. Embarrassed

this case reminds me of my post about girls should at least have one female friend. I'm not saying it's impossible for girls and guys to be "just friends." it's just that most of the guy friends girls think treat them just like one of the guys, probably would jump at the chance to hook up. Girls really can't trust us guys to give unbiased advice since we're always trying to get laid.
