This is a little curious (and amusing). I figured out why johnboy/poorpuppy got so much smarter when he wasn't playing.
If you go to the Options choice on the Scrabble thread, and then hit Set Variable, you get choices of which dictionary you want to use. The ones selected by English speakers are either TWL98 or Sowpads. The former is, I believe American English; the latter includes words used in the rest of the English speaking world. I see that soz and gigiwatt use TWL98 while baby uses sowpads. Poorpuppy started out with one but switched to Sowpads because I play a number of folks from outside the US. My dismal rating of 83 was involving games in which I played under the TWL98 banner. The more respectable 413 rating involves games I have played after switching to Sowpods.
Obviously, I am now a sowpoder.
What alerted me to this, BTW, was the word QI, which was sometimes allowed and sometimes not.

and even with your 400+ rating, you won't accept matches from anyone with a rating over 300 !
I'm working on that (but I really really should be doing chores). It's 50 degrees outside. I'll be back as soon as I can get away with it.
How does this sound? "I think I may have pulled a muscle in my back. We really shouldn't rush in to Spring cleanup too quickly. I think I need to ease into it. Perhaps I should spend today watching basketball and doing some writing." Reckon that will work?
Fake a fall in the shower, is my advice. Nice big dramatic crash, limp out grimacing and holding lower back...
