Ok, I have hatched a plan. We make Slappy come to the didge party. He uses the bathroom and comes out with the sling on his head and points, laughing at macholatino (sounds like a starbucks drink), ridiculing him for the speedo and saying how gross it is to leave in the bathroom..... whayt do you think? Not fair to make Slappy do our dirty work?

Would Slappy actually want a damp macholatino speedo on his head?

That's asking a lot of a fella.

So what's the deal on the legalities of it all? CAN you kick him out if you need to? What has he signed, for what sort of duration?

Oh.

Phooey.

I'm assuming there isn't any escape clause? As in, is there any way to make him leave if he doesn't want to leave?

The co-op I lived in had this whole elaborate thing for getting rid of troublemakers -- invoked it a couple of times when I was there, decidedly unpleasant but it worked.

I know when it's just the three of you it's a lot different.

Vent away, m'dear.

Summer 2006? Wasn't summer over on Sept. 23rd? Time for him to pack up his man thong and move on.

Let me rephrase: august 31st, 2007, is the end of the lease. Hopefully he'll be leaving at the end of June. And, he'll be gone for 2-4 weeks over winter break.

No secret or legal loophole that I know of. Though given his tendencies, we could probably make him want to move out by ignoring him and bitching a lot.

How about the truth? Tell him that you and Dag just don't feel he is a good fit and could he please find a new place to live. You could even offer to help him search for a new abode. I think that would be better than the two of you becoming a couple of evil hens.

That'd be my advice. When do the college students start to drop out and break their leases?

Neither Dasha nor I could see being able to take that "please move out" approach. In some way, we both feel like (at least I do) we should be able to deal with this. The rant here not withstanding, we are dealing to some degree. We are learning to speak up and out (even if this doesn't have an effect). Eveyone has to learn to deal with pains-in-the-ass. You guys are the back board - we're bouncing our vents and ideas off a2k.

Next time take the lease for the whole house then sub-lease to new tenants thus acting as a landlord to new house mates.

Put in escape clauses to get rid of those that don't fit in. Include house rules, cleanliness, courtesy (covers respect, cutlery, manners), hygiene (covers speedo), non-clutter, etc.

The most important words would be "at the discretion of ....." to give you wiggle room.
