Does "I’m really outing myself here" mean "I’m really sincerely showing what is in my heart here"?

Context:

I don’t dig the Buddha. I’m really outing myself here, because, if there is one thing that the humanist religious community can agree on, it’s that Buddhism is cool. Even the non-Buddhists think so. It is just not fashionable to dislike Buddhism.

To me, it reads as if the author is comparing this act with coming out (as gay or lesbian), and then in the sense that (s)he is putting this dislike out there, expecting a lot of critique and/or derision because not liking Buddha is apparently not the society approved thing to do

"Outing myself" simply means revealing or being honest.

"Coming out" is often used in letting others know one's sexual preference but you can use it in other situations.

He came out as a Democrat last week.

But Mike uses the expression "Out yourself!" instead.

Is this usage correct in English?
