Trained as a Clinical Social Worker, I have worked in Psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, and family counseling agencies.
After working two jobs for many years I am now semi-retired.
My current position is (psychiatric) Emergency Services Clinician.
I work three nights a week in a large urban ER.

Since this thread is growing, I'll throw my 2 cents in as well. (Although I think, these should be mentioned on everyone's "Profile" here as well.)
Origianally I studied history, journalism and political sciences.
During my "drinking period", I worked in different jobs.
After my therapy, I studued social work. Worked then as a probation officer, as a "youth worker" (AIDS and drugs-related prevention), as a university lecturer, studied history and law again, works council chairman ... which led to my momentrary status: retired/jobless social worker, working as (free) historian.

I do logistics (track inventory) and imports (track containers) as well as web design and tech support.
I used to teach English, before that I sold cars before that I sold Kirby, before that I was a manager of a Sonic fast food joint, before that I was a cook, before that....... I think the first thing I did was mow lawns and deliver the newspaper.

Sorry, Mr. de Kere, when did you manage to do all this? In the thread "A/S/L" (or "Age In Decades") someone made an assumption that you were 22 y.o....

I am a home school teacher.
I use to own my own taxi, before that I was a bartender and cook, before that I worked at a kodak photo lab, before that I was a general contractor as I took over my fathers siding and roofing business after he died, before that I worked at Baybank, before that I worked for a large payroll company. When I first started out I was a waitress, store clerk, papergirl, and factory worker. I also did some babysitting through the years.
I'm sure I'm missed some, but I got the brunt of it.

I trained as a clinical social worker, now working as a therapist in a child, adolescent and family mental health clinic - there for the last 14 years (can't BELIEVE I said that!) - although I have an increasing interest and expertise in infant mental health. I did a year in a rape and sexual assault clinic kind of in the middle of this.
Before this job, I worked as a social worker in a hospital - covering pretty nearly everything at one time or another. Before that, I worked as a probation and parole officer.
Before THAT, I worked for six horrible weeks in Customs!
From age 15 to graduation from university at 26, (yes, I studied for nine years - wasted a year doing a post-grad teacher training course) I worked as a shop assistant, cleaner, waitress, (including three years in a Chinese restaurant - very educational)tutored university and adult matriculation students in English (Literature - not as a foreign language) and high school students in biology.
When not working (and in off moments at work) I frequently function as group entertainer - or listening ear. I can still carry five plates at once - (REALLY good waitresses can do 6!) and four coffee cups. I know how to band butterflies, hand-feed a stormy petrel, get pills down ANY cat or dog - (I do wish I could make a living at that) - I sing and doodle whenever possible - I know lots of really useless stuff - and I taught myself to raise one eyebrow.
Go figure...
Oh - and I can do an imitation of a koala with chlamydia which makes people wet themselves with laughter - but only when merry - and I need a dessert spoon...

I have one question to Ms Lowan: if someone has working experience in particular field, but it was not acquired in Australia, do the Australian employers take it into consideration? I have 7 years of experience in logistics, that is the reason for my asking the question.

Not sure Steissd - why not approach some major companies and ask them if they would?
I imagine they would - professional qualifications vary in their acceptability.

I'm an ESL teacher, and have worked with people of all ages during many years of experience. Right now I'm with little kids in Kindergarten-5th grade, and given 5 more years will be able to retire (can't believe I've been in the public schools for 21 years already!)
Before that, I was a bilingual teacher working with Haitian immigrants, teaching math, history and ESL. I worked for a very short timr as an income maintenance worker with the Dept. of Public Welfare, which I hated.
My first love is the violin, and I started out as a music major. Now I play in chamber groups and orchestra, which is much better than trying to make a career out of it (for me)
I had to work my way through school, and I was mostly a waitress, though I did some brief stints as dishwasher, chef's assistant, and post office worker.
My dream is to retire from teaching and work as a librarian/storyteller. I'm developing my storytelling repertoire where I work now.

I currently work as a Unix systems & network administrator. Before this I worked in a CAD/CAM environment, primarly on the CAM side, in support of multi-axis N/C machining.

Sozobe, I'd love to read your article when it's finished.
Deb, May I have a ticket to your next performance?
Myself? I've had a checkered past (or maybe polka-dot is more descriptive.) Right now I'm an environmental specialist for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources...I inspect wastewater treatment plants, affectionately known as turd whirlers, and underground storage tank facilities, i.e. gas (petrol) stations. I've only been doing this since last October and I love it.
Before that I was a consultant in the environmental business for eleven years. Before that I had the same job that I have now. I did that for a little over two years. Before that I was a high school math teacher. Before that I was a biology teacher. Before that I ran a Montessori school. I also worked part-time at Jacque Penney for two years. Other jobs included fitting contact lenses at an optometrists office, checker at A&P, movie theater assistant manager, dietitian's aide in the maternity ward of the local hospital, file clerk for Flexsteel Furniture.
Jeez, no wonder I'm exhausted!

I was a textbook editor with a big publishing company. I was responsible for a list, for training, for negotiating contracts, etc.
Now I'm a freelance writer, editor, proofreader.
As a writer, I've had several business textbooks published. I also finished the first draft of a novel. And I wrote the style manual for a museum in Washington, DC.
As an editor, I've worked on many kinds of books, magazines, marketing materials, booklets, etc. I'm currently editing a book about finance and the stock market. It's not a textbook; it's for professionals.
And as a proofreader, I've proofread any and all manner of stuff.
I also do volunteer work. I tutor immigrants in English. I love doing this. Love it. I write special materials for my students. And I've learned a tremendous amount about the world and about my own country from my students.

Would like to see your business textbooks, I have a friend just wrapping up or should I say rewriting parts of his book. I'm about to put it on CD and PDF for him. I told him he's got to get it off floppies. One floppy per chapter.
