I hope so, eoe. You are one lovely lady and deserve a get away. In the mean time, you need to tell us what your wardrobe will contain. Will it be those fantastic fashions that you showed on WA2K radio? <smile>
Thanks Letty and no, I really don't have the body nor the nerve to wear any of those getups from WA2K radio. Boy, did THAT take off! Are you guys still on the air?
Great news, eoe - you deserve a great anniversary trip.
Thanks ehbeth. You only celebrate a 10th anniversary once, right?
Yes, eoe, it took off with the help of a lovely young lady in a red dress and a couple of goats on a VW
I don't get you. Care to expound???
ehBeth posted a picture of my son's first car, eoe. It was a VW and we were camping on the Outer Banks of N.C. When we came out of a little store there, we saw two goats on top of that VW eating the antenna. I really wanted to get Gus' goat, but he said they weren't his.
A Bahama Mama will be consumed in your honor. Prosit!
Thanks George. Looks yummy. What makes it pink?
Good for you, EOE! You'll love the Bahamas. The ocean is bright turquoise...it looks like a swimming pool. Hard to believe it is real. I've been to the Bahamas several times. I recommend the casinos in Freeport and the sightseeing in Nassau. What's your itinerary?
Don't have one. Open for suggestions. I've only heard that you can get much better deals on sightseeing tours and such by negotiating with the homies rather than going with the boat tours. True?
Very true.
Check out the Bahamas tourism sites for attractions, etc.
The find ones you like and deal directly with the operator.
For our Bermuda tour, we scheduled a helmet dive and
a cave tour that way.
there is also an "upside-down tower" (that's what i call it) in nassau. it's a glass tower going into the ocean. you enter it and go down the stairs to see all the fish swimming around the "tower" and you, without the fish being in an aquarium. we thought that was pretty neat. hbg
cruisin'
from the ship you can also easily walk over to the
NASSAU STRAW MARKET . it's very enjoyable to just stroll around and do some bargaining, if you feel like it. hbg ... one thing for sure; no matter how hard you bargain, the straw market vendors will win in the end. and i think they deserve to, after all they provide a lot of entertainment.
I'm so excited! And there's still a month and a half to go.
I wish I'd asked before now but, we've made our airline reservations already with between six and seven hours between flight times and boarding and disembarking the ship. We get into Orlando at about 11:00am, drive 50 miles to Port Canaveral for ship departure at 5pm. That seems so doable. Is it? Are we not factoring in something? Returning, we disembark at 9am and our flight out of Orlando is at 3pm. Again, that seems like alot of time without a mad rush. Right?
Check with the cruise line, eoe. If the ship departs at 5, they will require you to be there several hours earlier. Find out how early.
Ditto Eva.
Allow for airline delay (an hour and a half for safety) and some time for
unfamiliarity with the drive to Port Canaveral (a half hour?). Then you've
got to dispose of the car. I don't know whether it's a rental you are
dropping off or you are putting it in a parking garage, but in either case, it
will take some time. Add to this, as Eva said, how early the cruise line
wants you there. There will be some time spent waiting on line. In these
security-conscious times, that time is not inconsiderable.
On our Bermuda cruise we sailed out of Boston, so that was no problem.
When we cruiased to Alaska from Seattle, we flew into Seattle the day
before, saw a little of the city, and stayed overnight. The next day we
took a shuttle to the dock.
Ooops. That's not a 50 mile drive from Orlando to Port but an 'easy 50-minute drive', according to cruiseline info. So, it could be more than 50 miles???
Mapquest says:
Total Est. Time: 44 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 44.40 miles
Most of that is on FL 528 (the Beeline Expressway, a toll road).
