So, I notice that on this board one has to be either a Conservative or a Liberal. There is nothing else. Since I know what it means to be a Conservative in the current political climate, I have to acknowledge that I must be a Liberal!
Who else wants to come out of the closet with me? Have your say. Confess your liberal leanings.
Oh, and somebody with experience in these things, could you please tell me how to be one? So far my only firm positions are 1) against Iraq war from the beginning, 2) against big government spending and deficits, and 3) against corporate and governmental cronyism. I think I need a few more liberal positions...
Say it high, say it loud.
I'm a liberal and proud!
I am, I am!
I agree about the definition thing though. I'll go ahead and be liberal and PC about it and say that it probably goes for conservatives, too. We have a lot of conservatives here who don't particularly care what gay people do in the privacy of their own bedrooms, for example.
Meanwhile, I wasn't against the Iraq war from the beginning -- that is, I was deeply suspicious of motives, but thought some sabre-rattling had its place and that empty sabre-rattling (no willingness to back it up) was dangerous. I was more against how it all was handled (rush to war, UN, bad intel, insufficient plans and preparations, insufficient resources for troops) than the war itself.
I think that's true that it goes for conservatives too. I just don't see the term conservative or even Republican tossed around with as much disdain as the word liberal. Many many people I know who have always been conservative in the strictest sense could be called liberal now according to the constantly morphing definition of it.
I guess I just feel like blowing off steam about it. What can you really say when someone calls you liberal. No I'm not? That doesn't work. So I say, if I'm a liberal, then liberal must be something to be proud of.
<raises fist in solidarity>
Well considering it is the only choice that isn't liberal... I guess I'm Dirty. Red. And a Bastard. Thanks.
Darn, I had a conservative choice on there -- it must have gotten cropped. Sorry JP, I mean DRB.
There we go, feel free to vote again.
Thanks... can I have an "Other" option?
Nope, that would ruin the sarcastic point I'm making.
On a continuum with 1 being extremely liberal and 10 being extremely conservative...
...I would locate myself at position "p."
Not sure what that makes me.
I voted "Dirty Red Bastard", because at heart I'm simply a rabble-rousing old-fashioned revolutionary socialist. And I aint gonna stand for being called no namby-pamby faint-hearted liberal.
Aux barricades!
("Namby-pamby"?)
Please dont equate that self-outing with my avatar ... the folks at PORA would not, I'm sure, appreciate it ;-)

It makes you a 'peelative'. I love inventing new words. But sorry Frank, peelative is just another name for liberal. Either your lips are placed firmly on the buttocks of George W. Bush, or you are a liberal.
Hmm
Liberal.
Plain and simple. Me.
I have not had enough coffee to explain WHY.
hehe. I just am.
;-)

How about a...
"I'm neither conservative nor liberal, but rather a little bit of both" with some, "both sides are so F**ed up I just wish government would just stay the hell out of my life," thrown in for flavor followed by some "don't we all really just want what is best for the country and instead of arguing about what we disagree about and deciding on labels to call each other we should be talking about what we
can agree on and do something productive"
...option.
Oh, you don't have to explain it shewolf. According to Webster, liberals are not actually capable of explaining our positions rationally. Whew. That makes life so much easier.

Well, there goes the thread. You just kind of summed up my whole point. I guess I can retire now.
If it matters, I understood what you were attempting Freeduck. I even chuckled about it.
Sorry... They don't call me the thread killer for nothing
