Attitudes towards different languages in music

The Romance languages are beautiful whether sung or spoken. I can sit and listen without knowing anything about the conversation as long as it is a Romance language. The flow, the rhythm to me are hypnotic.

The operas in German seem perfect, even those that convey sadness and despair. Waltzes, leider, also sound good in German. Gorecki's Symphony #3 (The Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) sung by Dawn Upshaw is one of my favorites. The despairing sadness to me is almost evocative of 9/11.

As I hear more world music, I have developed an appreciation of most ethnic music. Indian, Japanese, Carribean, many countries in Africa, including Morocco, have a distinct personality, rhythm and timbre that becomes more appealing each time I listen.

I guess, typically, we adapt--our ear adapts--to new sounds to the point that they become enjoyable, or at least palatable in some cases.

BTW, welcome Nik.

Satt, I have been fascinated for some time by the beautiful music that is obviously Oriental, and is played behind the commercial for Sea World.

Through a Net search I have found the following:

Quote:
The song we use in our Commercial is in titled 'The Child Inside' and is sung by the South African Group named 'Qkumba Zoo.' The Sea World commercial was filmed during the months of September through November and aired internationally on January 1, 2003. All of our commercial was filmed at Sea World Adventure Park Orlando, an Anheuser-Busch Adventure Park. Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks are as follows:

Sea World Orlando, Florida San Diego, California San Antonio, Texas

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Florida Williamsburg, Virginia

Discovery Cove Orlando, Florida

South African group? I am amazed, Satt. Shows you what I know, but thanks for the link. Whatever, my friend, they are absolutely enchanting.

(funny, they didn't sound Dutch) Razz

It seems that I wasn't the only one, Satt. There is something sooooooo gentle and soothing about that song. You're totally inscrutable.

I'll try the Qkumba Zoo's song. In a few days I would be able to hear it through a CD.

Letty..
I have listened to "the child (inside)" by QKumba Zoo through a CD (track 2 of "wake up & dream" ARISTA). There is no wonder you felt oriental flavor, I have felt that as well. It reminds me of some types of chinese music, though the rhythm is much more clear than most of oriental music.
I like it.

Satt, that music is best described as gentle and velvet. On another thread about advertising as art, I should have mentioned that Sea World is remembered because of that soft and gentle lyric. I will always wonder how the words translate.

Found the lyrics to The Child Inside: enchanting.

THE CHILD INSIDE QKUMBA ZOO WAKE UP AND DREAM
--------
Who's that calling ?
who's that who can show the way ?
the child inside, its the child who lives still in your eyes
ne ho ne ye he hiyo, ne ho ne yehe ha
ne ho ne ye he hiyo, neho neho nehe hehe

who's that dying,
trying for a space in the cage you call your life
who's that crying
crying out just what it is you've thrown away

it's the. . .

the child inside, its the child who lives still in your eyes

ne ho ne ye he hiyo, ne ho ne yehe ha
ne ho ne ye he hiyo, neho neho nehe hehe

who's that dancing
laughing crying living every day by day by day by day

it's the. . .

the child inside, its the child who lives still in your eyes

ne ho ne ye he hiyo, ne ho ne yehe ha
ne ho ne ye he hiyo, neho neho nehe hehe

secret of the sun is in your eyes
take the power from your dreams and fly
children know it's magick that makes the world go round

Diane, Thank you; Thank you. The words are as beautiful as the melody. I think a cat just walked across my mind. How else can I account for the shiver.

So that's why you changed your avatar, is it. Land of enchantment. <smile>.

I can hear that melody right now in my mind. Think I'll pick it out on the piano.
