Filling In Your A2K Profile/ Why Not?

I found filling in the profile description a breeze. No problemo! Laughing

What took me over a week of searching was finding a unique avatar to post. I must have tried a dozen, or so! I'm so indecisive and wasn't happy with any.

I finally gave that up and decided instead to make some nice lettering in Paint with my name. That way, it will always be unique!

....and then again, I might change my mind! Laughing

I tried to put my old avatar, the picture of a goshawk. It's one of the most beautiful birds you'll ever see. Anyway I failed miserably and I feel guilty asking someone to do it for me. I was given a link to accomplish it. Walked right in and fell on my face. Musta had a spell of bozoitis. When I couldn't get my old avatar back I lost interest.

Well Region Philbin found my old me when I was bobsmyth. Suddenly found I couldn't log in anymore so took the name bobsmythhawk and came back but without my avatar. This hawk was and is special to me. I band hawks for U. S. Fish and Wildlife and this one was the prettiest I ever caught . This was on the thread for missing a2kers

Thanks ehBeth. It was an amazing day that day. I spotted the hawk at tree level and jumped in the blind to pull on the string that is fastened to a vest on a pigeon we use as a lure. Immediately the hawk started in as I saw a second hawk appear in almost the same area. The goshawk went past looking over the situation and then swung around and dived for the bait. At the last instant I yanked the string pulling the pigeon out of his path and he hit the net. I dropped the string and ran out of the blind toward him. Just as I reached the net and grabbed his legs through the mesh the secong hawk hit the net about twenty feet away. I couldn't let the goshawk go and knowing my arms aren't twenty feet long I reached my walkie talkie to call my pal Mike who was on the other side of the same hill. When he answered I told him to get over here before the second hawk got away. He made record time and nabbed the second hawk a smaller accipiter (Coopers hawk). I took the picture while holding him at arms length. We banded the two and released them. Now that's a happy day.

This one was just a few feet away from me on my roof
ledge. I couldn't believe this huge bird is sitting right there
for me to capture. I live right in the city, but have a canyon
close by.

Back when I lived in Venice (cal), we had a neighbor whose ficus tree became home to, oh, a hundred night herons. Poor woman... the circle of defecation was wide, wide. It was after the eucalyptus had been chopped down in Marina del Rey...

Anyway, for a while there we had the occasional sighting of a night heron in our yard, once on my small pond in a 36" concrete pot, and I did take photos. But they're not immediately at hand...

Hi Calamity Jane:

Nice shot. It looks like a Harris hawk but there's too much shadow to tell. Here's link to help you.
