I had been to holiday for a week, and I have eaten a lot of food there. Ever since I came back from holiday on Monday, I have been feeling sick. On the first day back, I have only taken two paracetamols. The next day, I took 4 paracetamols, two capsules in 4 hours. The day after, I took 6. The first two was taken at around 1:00pm, the second 5:00pm, and then the third at around 8:00pm, and hour before I should have taken it. Yesterday I took four paracetamols, two capsules each. One at around 2:30, and the next at around 8:00, 5 hours and a half after my last one (2 paracetamol capsules between 4-6 hours). In total, I've taken 16 of them over the past 4 days. Today, I haven't taken any, and while initially after waking up I felt better, tonight I have vomited on the street when out with friends.
I need to know if I have taken a paracetamol overdose and if I should go to hospital.
@BurlyDormouse6247,
I would go to the hospital to be sure. Even if today, specifically, you didn't OD, taking a lot of paracetamol (it's called Tylenol in the US) can give you liver damage.
In 1984 I lost my partner to a paracetamol overdose. Go to a hospital. Every hour matters.
My understanding is that the recommended dose is very close to the dangerous dosage. Exceeding the amount on the label can be very dangerous, especially over a period of time. I don't even take the stuff.
@BurlyDormouse6247,
wow, you seem to have a real tolerance to the stuff. Don't your ears ring?
I cant take one of the big dose ones without hearing fire bells in my head.
See a doc at an EMC very soon. ya only got one liver
@centrox,
and its no good to donate a bad liver.
@centrox,
I think I've never taken Tylenol or Paracetawhatever. I've rarely taken aspirin, though it is in my bathroom cabinet. At least ten years since.
It is in my cabinet in case I buy into the tad of aspirin to ward away heart attacks thing - I went so far as to pay for a bottle. Snort, I should go look up the date.
I understand people have catastrophic pain and that there us a wing of medicine called pain medicine. Procedures by those specialists no doubt vary from when I first read about that.
@BurlyDormouse6247,
If you have any doubt at ALL ago to your nearest ER NOW.
If you have taken too much you have a short time in which to act. After a certain point, if your levels are at a deadly point, you will die and that's it.
@BurlyDormouse6247,
No, paracetamol overdose not gud for your health..
@BurlyDormouse6247,
I think the maximum dosage for acetaminophen is between 3,000 and 4,000mg. Most acetaminophen (here in the US) is dosed at 500mg per tablet, so you are probably at the upper limit at 16 over two days.

Yes. The British NHS says the max dose is 8 x 500mg tablets in 24 hours, taken at least 4 hours apart. The OP is right on the max here.
I think the point is that if you are taking heroic quantities of this substance for severe pain or discomfort you need to see a doctor.
@BurlyDormouse6247,
Wonder if the mouse made it?
