I'm afraid many here will take that in a religious part I'm not intended in.

But let's assume..

Francis:-

Don't get that.I don't wish to upset any religious sensitivities unneccessarily.

Let's assume what?

Let's assume that the title will either attract those who will interfere with a studious discussion or it will attract those best suited to participate in the discussion.

"The devil's in the details" is excellent. But do you want to attract the religious fanatics? I think that's what Francis is getting at. Is that right, Francis?

Lola and Francis:-

I hope you don't mind Francis my putting Lola first in my address but you know how it is.

I still don't understand quite what Francis means.Does he wish to upset or not.I might by the way.

But Lola is probably right.We should get a good title not some off the cuff thing which might not look right after a bit.Suggest something Lola using divergent thinking.

I'll be back in 1/2 hr I hope.

With a tittle like yours we are going to attract the religious fanatics.
If you want so, let's go. But we'll not be discussing Flaubert.

Agree with Lola suggesting an other tittle, using divergent thinking.

Phew--I'm in and out like a pot cuckoo in a cuckoo-clock at midnight.

Good metaphor for Mathos don't you think Lola?

Right!If we do attract religious fanatics I don't think they will stay long.Any negative input such as "extra meds" might offer according to his threats we can ignore or,better still,push some of his buttons.

Francis-If I was French and doing English as good as you do I would wish a Frenchman I was in touch with to point out any errors I made in my French.
Have Lola and I to do the same for you?

Hey-that sounds good eh? "Lola and I".

Spendius, you're incorriable!

Let's see now, what is divergent thinking?

And what, may I ask is a "pot cuckoo?" Shall I google?

Anything to do with flibbling the wibble?

Lola;-

The cuckoo in a cuckoo clock can be made from a variety of substances.I chose "pot" because it was more suited to my jest than the others.I considered "plastic" but dismissed it for various reasons and I thought "wood" didn't scan as good as "pot".If you say "pot cuckoo" I think you will find that it flows off the tongue,so to speak, more easily that "wood cuckoo" and especially in the whole phrase "pot cuckoo in a cuckoo clock".Not by much I admit but that bit is sometimes crucial.

Quote:
When Daisies Pied
Spring

When daisies pied and violets blue
And lady-smocks all silver-white
And cuckoo-buds of yellow hue
Do paint the meadows with delight,
The cuckoo then, on every tree,
Mocks married men; for thus sings he,
Cuckoo;
Cuckoo, cuckoo: O, word of fear,
Unpleasing to a married ear!

When shepherds pipe on oaten straws,
And merry larks are plowmen's clocks,
When turtles tread, and rooks, and daws,
And maidens bleach their summer smocks,
The cuckoo then, on every tree,
Mocks married men; for thus sings he,
Cuckoo;
Cuckoo, cuckoo: O, word of fear,
Unpleasing to a married ear!

Winter

When icicles hang by the wall,
And Dick the shepherd blows his nail,
And Tom bears logs into the hall,
And milk comes frozen home in pail,
When blood is nipped, and ways be foul,
Then nightly sings the staring-owl,
Tu-who;
Tu-whit, tu-who: a merry note,
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.

When all aloud the wind doth blow,
And coughing drowns the parson's saw,
And birds sit brooding in the snow,
And Marian's nose looks red and raw,
When roasted crabs hiss in the bowl,
Then nightly sings the staring owl,
Tu-who;
Tu-whit, tu-who: a merry note,
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot

I don't know either. I found it here:

http://www.web-books.com/Classics/Poetry/Anthology/Shakespeare/WhenDaisies.htm

I entered "pot cuckoo" in google and there it was. But I can't find the reference yet.

I'm going to have to start Googling a bit.I think I might be at a disadvantage if I don't.In my innocence I had believed that all the erudition on these threads was coming out of people's heads on the spur of the moment.

Not all of us have been as dedicated as you.......however, one does have to know what to google in order to make full use of the tool. I have read a lot, (my book shelves are filled with books I've bought and read......some admittedly only in part) but no one can read everything. Google is the best search engine I've found and it's a real time saver. Plus, if you mess around googling very much, you're bound to learn more than you could have alone in your rooms. Enjoy. I hope you find it helpful.
