The site was slow there for a minute or two.......it happens from time to time. Did you know you can cancel a post by clicking on the little X that appears beside the up arrow spot, as long as no one has posted after it? Well, if you didn't know, now you've been informed.

Lola:-

Now that time has come around again and my feet are itching like a horse in spring.
There's a shop along the boulevard selling holidays in the sun-sounds like just the thing.
I'm going
I'm going-down to the Mediterraen
Going to say goodbye to cloudy skies and smokey old Birmingham.

Oh-B'ham was only used for the rhyme.

You have a rare and lovely arrangement of synapses.

(It is nearly the first verse of a song I once wrote but there's a bit missing in the last line. That's why it doesn't scan)It might come back to me.

Night night.

Have you not noticed the remarkable similarity between the social dynamics of threading and those in evidence in a pub.

In a pub it is polite when you have run out of ideas to stand and listen for a while in the hope that you might learn something useful.

Knotted hair, beard, shop doorways ! You fit 'The Bill' Spendius
Incidentally, what has any Yorkshireman ever known about politeness?
They are indeed an uncouth member of society in all aspects.
I note with amusement your patronage of Wuthering Heights, Jayne Eyre
has 'Blind Jack' slipped your mind Spendius?

I rather think it appropriate to summon assistance for the geriatrics, senility is indeed a spectacle to behold.

And the whole damn place.....................

Well, I admit, Mathos that your taste for Cohen is appealing. But I'm sure Spendi is no more senile than I am.

KKLola, not for one moment did I assume, think, consider or murmur that
friend Spendius, was, " any more senile than you were."

Yes, you who must leave everything
That you cannot control;
It begins with your family,
But soon it comes round to your soul.
Well, I've been where you're hanging
I think I can see how you're pinned.
When you're not feeling holy,
Your loneliness says that you've sinned.

I think I'm debrainitated.I spent the last hour or so reading 50 pages on 2 threads about A to K meets.
I could do with some re-activation.Do you have a BOOST setting I could use.Just by posting you I can already detect feeling returning.I understand now why we have certain threads more or less to ourselves.I rather wish Bernie would join us more often. Why do he pose rearview in the butler's pantry Nureyev style?
Why do you strain so hard to be happy. It looks very hard work and it must be doing the poor old planet no good at all.Just imagine 8 billion doing that. You are a privileged bunch.Sociologically you are aristocrats and merely lack the opportunity to behave like Madame de Pompadour or Sabina Poppea. As for being left wing you must be joking.
From here it looks like if you rode to power on the back of concern for the poor you would really let rip.

Operation: RE-brainiate Spendius

Quote:

Do I look like I'm straining? Damn! I've been outed.

Yes we are a privileged lot. Sometimes when I think about the odds of any of us making it to this physical world, how fortunate some of us are, I feel very bad for those who made it only to be miserable. Children in third world countries, who starve for a few years and then die. Abused and imprisoned people. People who are sick with no treatments available for them. Think what it was like to live in previous centuries. Life span was short and illness came soon enough without pain killers or anti-biotics. Tooth ache, infection, pain. Yuck. Loss is a price we pay for living and is unavoidable, however most of us get much more good living these days before we have give up.

I wish Bernie would join us more often too. Who knows why he doesn't. I certainly don't. And if you ask him, I'm sure he won't say.

He is standing that way in the kitchen because he wasn't posing. I took the photo without telling him and he was in motion. (Putting away the dishes.) Do you like what you can see of our apartment? Our artistic expression is a bit obsessive, but the world needs obsessive types. Where would we be without them? Extinct, I think. Anyway, it pleases us.

I'll post some pictures of our garden on the balcony as soon as it's finished. I think it's lovely.....now if I'll just sit down out there and enjoy it for a while before I run off doing some other obsessive task. I annoy some people because I'm so busy....but I like myself.

Actually I have every intention of sitting around out there this Summer, if it will just get a little bit warmer. We're struggling along ten degrees lower than normal here. I want the sun!

Do you like gardening? I suspect not. You like your books in your fester pit, with no distractions. Festering microbes are called infections, aren't they? Maybe you're a vaccine. I think you should try a little harder to let yourself be "happy." You seem a bit stubbornly alone and cynical. You could give people a break now and then. Many people on a2k are fun and worth knowing. Many are very intelligent and knowledge. My taste for variety serves me well. I get on well enough with most people, even though I can be a little prickly. Oh well, we all have our own methods of managing.

I like to get together with a2k friends. It's always funny to me that when I meet an internet friend, they don't talk in the way I've been reading them at all. (When we read, as Beth pointed out this week end, we read in our own voices. Funny, isn't it?) We all have funny accents and our body language tells something about us that can't be communicated in any other way than in action. It's fun for me to put it all together. I love it that I've discovered the internet.........another way we're privileged now.

A quote or two from Brian Appleyard in the Sunday Times Culture section.

"Television....has not so much dumbed down as had its entire cerebral cortex surgically removed."

""Instead we have Dick and Dom (on the revived Ask the Family)...says they have "games, quizes, jokes and lots of stuff to gross you out."

"flight from intelligence"

"exemplars of the Blue Peter effect"

"all presenters are characterised by their ability to convey enthusiasm rather than knowledge."

"betrayal"

"they don't believe in what they are doing."

The shows --"are designed to tell people interesting things in a way that will not shake them too far out of their preferred condition of ignorant complacency."

"This transformation is to do with the authority and position of the intellectual, and, ultimately, with the seriousness with which we treat learning."

"...civilisation isn't worth preserving."

"...burying blindingly simple points beneath a mountain of futile expressive devices."

Look out Kid.

Lola:-

Last night in the pub myself and two other slopers spent the entire 90 minutes mixing boozing with a discussion on A Midsummer Night's Dream. The word "I" was conspicuous by its absence. It was ace.

Me lonely?What does that mean?

And some infections are called innoculations.

Gardening?No thanks.

Yes indeed, cynical, stubborn. alone, (who wants to sit in a shop doorway with a chronic drunkard contaminated with his own personal urine stained trousers) and melodramatic when he attempts to be knowledgeable and erudite.

Ah Spendispud, leave Lola to a gentleman.

She is merely confused with your drama Queen activities.

How exciting, abnormals at the bar and Leggo searching for new ideas.

This is the improvement I have been patiently awaiting Lola !

I would like you to define 'annoying'

My shirts not being correctly pressed annoys me.
My steak not being cooked exactly to my liking is extremely annoying.
Having to carry out a task I expect others to do in a competent manner, (for which I am paying them) is extremely annoying.

You also state you are long in patience. Only when everything is running to your wishes can you afford to have patience.. Variability creates instability, which in turn creates you personal irritation, this is your 'Brown Room'.

Consider ; -

He did not wear his scarlet coat,
For blood and wine are red,
And blood and wine were on his hands
When they found him with the dead,
The poor dead woman whom he loved,
And murdered in her bed.

He walked among the Trial Men
In a suit of shabby grey,
A cricket cap was on his head,
And his step seemed light and gay;
But I never saw a man who looked
So wistfully at the day.

The Ballad of Reading Gaol.

Oscar Wilde
1854 - 1900

The poem is a must, locate the same on the net if you have no personal copy.

It explains much in deed about the human race.

But remember ; -

The rank is but the guinea's stamp
The man himself the gold.
If rich and poor can all unite
And equal rights maintain.

"Annoying" is that state of a person or other organism which causes an observer to feel like rolling up a magazine and swatting.
