What Is This Food?

It looks like the kind of thing you need to eat quickly, before it eats you.

This reminds me of all the enticing ads of questionable value that flirt with us to pay attention to what often turns into iffy Advertising City.
Ignoring sponsored ads (there are little hints) is routinely useful.

A lot of those sponsored link images that one finds on websites, like news websites, are photoshopped.

I typed "weird fruit" into Google Image Search, and found this, which may or may not be from Ecuador. TinEye Image match search just shows it is is on some "weird fruit" pages, with no further information, just like the one at the top of this thread.

You know, I think it may be a kind of passion fruit or maracuya like they have in South America.

I actually got some useful information from a sponsored ad, it was one of those where you click on it and you see a whiteboard with different drawings appear and it seems like an interminable message spiced with plenty of "but first....." The thing I learned was don't eat farmed salmon. I checked it out and it's full of PCBs, which are bad news. Took me seemingly 20 minutes to find this out, but it was true. Now I only eat wild caught.

I'm not used to people thinking passion fruit is "weird". They are found everywhere in Britain and the rest of Europe. I don't just mean in "ethnic" neighbourhoods, I mean in mainstream supermarkets and in restaurants as a dessert ingredient. You can get the juice in bottles and cans, and buy cans of soda made from it. There was one, I can't remember the name, where the TV ads said "contains exotic maracuyá!", I supppose because they thought not many Brits know that maracuyá and passion fruit are two names for the same thing.

Still looks pretty gross. Like a rotten fig.

I had never had this kind of fruits. Seems not well.

If passion is done right it is nasty enough on it's own. And pictures only help if it's faked.
