McTag, Thank you for the report on the peace demonstration in London - one of my favorite destinations in this world. The detail of your trip that day was excellent; it brought back memories of the many places I have also visited during my visits to London. Even stayed at the Holiday Inn Bloomsbury during my last trip, but that's closer to King's Cross station. Is the Peter Pan statue still in Hyde Park? c.i.
Oh yes, c.i. J M Barrie's spirit still lives.
Straight on till morning.
McT
p.s. It's touching and encouraging, to learn how many Americans love London.
As we do New York.
And as a non-Londoner, and out-of-towner as it were, a hick from the sticks, I love the place too and it has a romance for me. Even to recite the names of the stations on the Tube, evokes a kind of Dickensian recognition (of things that never were) and a powerful feeling of belonging.
Strange, that, for a Scot.
McTag, If you're a fan of Charles Dickens, there's a very nice museum in London that I have visited once. If interested, here's the info.
The Dicken's House Museum
48 Doughty St,
London, WC1N 2LF

48 Doughty Street was the home of Charles Dickens for a number of years, and was where he created characters such as Oliver Twist, The Artful Dodger and Nicholas Nickleby. he Dickens House Museum was opened to the public in 1925, and houses the world's largest collection of Dickens related material including personal items and manuscripts.

Child: £2.00
Concessions: Over 60 - £3.00 / Students - £3.00

BTW, the Dicken's museum with its many original manuscripts are kept under glass and cloth to prevent bleaching. c.i.
Thanks c.i.
Bloomsbury? Been to the Pizza Express? or
"...the British Museum/ had lost its charm....
How long, I wondered/ Could this thing last....
..and in foggy London town the sun was shineeng
Everywhere"
The age of miracles hadn´t past McTag.
Hi, McTag
Thanks for the report. I hope you can make it to our meeting on 20 March. I suppose it may be a long way to come.
Where in the North-West are you?
KP
Hi Kitchenpete
I hope to come to the meet on the 20th- it depends a little on work commitments, and we'll be busy then. But I think I can make it.
I am in Cheshire, in Stockport. But my brother is in Palmers Green, so that's handy as a jumping-off point.
Hello Hebba in Denmark, too. I see you know the American Standards songbook. Hey maybe we can have a sing-song on the 20th, (down at the old Bull & Bush.) I'm joking Walter, don't worry.
McT
Hi McTag
Just got back from Stockport, visiting my Mum. I'm a bit late to this thread where and when exactly is the London meeting?
Ah, you've been to the centre of the universe - hoping, you had a nice trip!
The meeting will be on March 20 in perhaps an Indian restaurant, where we'll get not only bigger portions but discount as well - according to gautam.
Well, I don't think, anything is fixed 100% yet. (It's on the first pages.)
Hi Steve
I was a bit late to the thread myself.
I trust your mum is well.
Yes, seemingly 20th March. (The venue I think they're keeping secret from me
 )
McT
No venue has been fixed, McTag.
Gautam has a couple of good suggestions, including one where he knows the management, etc.
We'll let everyone know, but it's likely to be in the West End area somewhere (London, not Edinburgh!).
seem to be in the habit of posting things twice at the moment moment
But you are meanwhile fit enough to delete those!
McTag, Don't remember a Pizza Express, but remember a pub across the street from the hotel where I downed several pints while writing postcards, and their meals were pretty good too! c.i.
Can anybody help me with finding lodging at economy rates from March 18 to March 23? c.i.
Try this site, c.i.

Does this mean ......? Would be more than great!
Hi Walter, Trying to work on airfare and accommodations. c.i.
Thanks for the website, Walter! Accommodation in London is always a horror!
margo, And that "horror" can turn into a nightmare!
