Irregular Spotting on Birth Control

Reply Mon 17 Apr, 2017 10:10 am
Hi. I've been taking Camilla progestin only birth control for about 3 years now and usually do not get a period at all. Me and my boyfriend are sexually active and birth control is our only method on contraception. Last month, March, I got 2 periods one lasting 5 days and one lasting 4. This month I've had light spotting almost everyday for about 2 weeks. I took 2 pregnancy tests a weeek apart and both came up negative, but i continue to spot. It usually is enough blood to get on my underwear but not enough to wear a pad with. Has anyone had similar experiences/know what's going on?

Talk to your doctor as breakthrough bleeding probably shouldn't be happening (I'm not a doctor). Also talk about perimenopause as that might be a part of what is in play.

Call your doctor's office and make an appointment to discuss this.

Since breakthrough bleeding is a result of too little estrogen, use a back-up birth control method until it subsides or you consult your health care provider.
