ah pueo!! Such a man after me own heart.
never do today -
what you can put off till tomorrow.
especially taxes...why should the US
govt earn any interest from those
who file early vs those who file at
the deadline?

However, I DO have a serious question about
credit card companies.
I have had one credit card forever. I used to
have 2 or 3 others but cut them up, since
they helped me to be much more likely to
spend more than I could afford. During my
4 year wait to get on social security disability
I WAS late, only because I sent in enough
money to pay 4 months worth of payments
which this credit card company applied as
all one bulk payment for that one month, and
then listed me as delinquent client.
Then - they went nuts with the credit card
interest. From a promised 9% plus prime
guaranteed for lifetime ...they jacked it
up to 26% interest. Last year about this
time of year, they offered me the chance
to redeem my credit rating and get my
lower rate back. All I had to do was to
make on time payments for 6 months.
Well, at the end of the 6 months - they
jacked it right back up again - I spoke
with a friend who is a banker, and she told
me to get it in writing - before getting
run thru the wringer again.
The next time they offered it to me, I
did tell them to send it to me in writing.
They never did. And I ceased to make
ANY payments whatsoever. It has been
at least 6 - 8 months since I paid on this
account. They are threatening to take me
to court. I doubt that there is much that
they can do but to put a lien against my
home - which I really don't care.
Do I REALLY have something to worry
about here, or is it all just blowing smoke??

Dear Auntie Lowan,

I had dinner this evening at the home of a Japanese friend and her fiance. As a predinner munchie, they served something that looked like string beans (green beans). I popped one in my mouth and started chewing. Then I saw the host and hostess using their teeth to extract the contents of the beanlike things. They discarded the shell/pod. I was chewing the shell/pod. It became apparent after a while that the shell/pod had to go somewhere, but down was not an option. The only other option was out. As discreetly as possible, I emptied the contents of my mouth into a napkin.

Did I do the right thing? Or is this a question for Miss Manners?

Dear Seal,

Because and why not not?

Yes to the first option, and I doubt it.

Your trip to Hungary will happen when you are hungary enough.

Goodness, I hope so!

I hope tomorrow is better.

Mr Stillwater,

While it may appear to the untutored gaze that an injustice has been done to you - I think you may need to consider this matter more deeply. Have you injured some sweet, innocent Bu....I mean person, recently? Have you provoked and lampooned her beyond lapine...I mean human bearing? Could it be that this is the universe taking you in its loving hand and administering benevolent chastisement?

What can you learn from this?

Go thou, and sin no more.

Thank you Margo - I think.....

Little k - I fear Auntie Lowan has NO expertise with money at all - this is illustrated by the fact that she has had to exist on whatever is in the fridge and larder all this week, and for the next two - and she is probably off the net for a week as of 14/2/03.

NEVER listen to Auntie Lowan on any matters financial....

Dear Babs,

Please see my answer to Little k - can you see a lawyer? or financial ombudsman? we have a banking ombudsman here...

Pueo,

Tragically, when you turn 43, you will become meaningless - a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing - a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is seen no more - your life will fall into the sere and yellow leaf - a quintessence of nothingness.

44 is fine, though.

Roberta,

Such poise! Such grace under pressure! Such finesse!

Well done, oh thou good and faithful woman!

Oh, Auntie Lowan,

I'm so glad you approve of my manners. I wasn't sure if I had done the right thing, but I knew that spitting the thing out onto the floor or back into the bowl would be wrong.

Ethnic food ought to come with written instructions!

Thank you oh wise sage...

Pueo... I turned 43 last month and I can assure you that nothing, NOTHING, happens when you are 43.

Little K... perhaps you should ask Mrs. SealPoet. She's looking for clients I believe...

I like the look of this thread. Hi Auntie Debs, Hi Gautam, Hi Everyone!

I dont' have a question to ask, just a lot of musings, at the moment. No doubt I'll be back!

Dear Auntie D

I seem to have the same problem as your good self. I am extremely financially challenged! I fritter away $$$ & have no idea of where they've gone! I think the stuff is for pleasure! Tell me, oh wise one, is there any alternative to never leaving the house to hold onto cash & remain solvent? Have you an answer, or are you still working on it?

Definitely a work in regress, Ms Olga!

Do any of our friends have advice on this matter where Auntie Lowan is speechless - for the good of all?
