i guess i will play along as well although i am much more of a college football fan than pro. and my pro team hasn't done much recently so i am rather depressed about that...
there's enough parity in the NFL these days that a bad team can be a good team in a couple of years.
which team do u follow?
unfortunately...raiders. when i was little i always sat with my dad when he watched football and i always wanted to watch the black and silver team. that kinda stuck with me as i grew up. so i am your typical woman...like the team because of their colors. they need a QB so badly i don't know what to do...however they did get randy moss so hopefully something will happen. i am gonna have to find a new jersey because i think my gannon one is a little lacking. maybe he'll pull something out. and what is up with them opening against NE, my most hated team for obvious reasons...play off game, snow...
however, college...gotta love my horns!!! 2005 rose bowl winners, i almost had a heart attack during that game. and vince young...wow! its kinda sad that as a woman, i order espn game plan so i can watch all the longhorn games all season!!! more than likely though because of their performance last year, most of them will televised so i won't be out the 115 bucks or so!
I'll play. I'm good at this.
Cool! I seem to have favorable responses indicating interest from PDiddle, panzade, OCCUMBILL, bbaptiste, dragon19, Region Philbis, Child of the Light and, of course, Realjohnboy. That is eight, and I have only done one twist of the thumbscrews so far. George says he has largely lost interest in A2K; the kid I mentioned above never opened the PM I sent him. There was a guy in Mexico who seems to have diappeared but he may actually be back.
I took a peak at the first week's lineup of games. Some pretty good ones. I may post the schedule this week so yall can get off to a running start by looking at how some of the pre-season matchups go. RJB will holdoff on making my predictions until the day before the first game (a Thursday night game, I believe) in order to see who gets hurt, who gets hot, and who gets shot. (A player for the Eagles(?) got shot over the weekend in some sort of dispute).
Thanks for your interest. -rjb
Another day of light nagging (no pads, yet, for johnboy). But I did, of course, take my steroids. Welcome back to fbaeezer from Mexico City who will be with us for the new season, and a welcome to El-Diablo who is a Miami Dolphins fan. And also Acuinkink, who is partial to NE. We have gotten to 11 potential players.
so how does it work? we just say each week who we think is going to win each game or what? just getting ready here...
The first game each week is usually the Thursday night game, and then all of the Sunday games, and finally the Monday night game.
I will post the schedule for the week, usually on Monday afternoon (which is before the last game of the "prior" week, but my bedtime is 10 pm so I never get to watch much Monday night football). I list the games showing who is the Visitor and who is the Home Team. I may also list some extraneous info to help or confuse those who are are cognitionally challenged about football. For example (looking at the 1st week starting 9/8): I will post:
Oakland (last year's regular season record: 5-11) @ NE (14-2)
Tampa Bay (5-11) @ Minnesota (8-8)
etc
Players have until one second before the kick off of the FIRST game of the "weekend" (ie Thurday's night as long as they have those scheduled) to submit therir predictions by posting here.
All I need is this info: NE, MN, etc.
But I do also need this. One game will be designated as the "tiebreaker."
Players must not only predict the winner of that game - which in week #1 will be Philly (13-3) @ Atlanta (11-5) but also must predict the total number of points that the two teams will score.
Johnboy gently asks that players check their ballots before submission to be sure that all games and the tiebreaker have been predicted. The deadline of kick-off time of the first game is pretty much non-negotiable.
And oh yes, gloating over you and your team's success, or bemoaning the lack of success, and generalized trash talking is more than welcome.
(oops. Sorry about the double posting)
Got your PM realjohnboy, thanks. I don't follow football much, but hey, here's a chance to start.
What team will I follow? New England or Rams.
Thanks, Ray. You make player #12, and johnboy hasn't even worked up a sweat yet. Going for 18 now.
Notice, panzade, the early "sandbagging" going on. "I don't know anything..." they profess. These self pro-claimed neophytes will probably wipe us out.
Yup as you said I'll be in for sure. Every once in a while i may need a PM as I generaly don't venture into the Sports section too often though.

Yeah, I've heard that stuff before
Neophytes... sounds cool.....
It's less than a month away until the start of the new NFL season and here on A2K there is a little exercise where we try to pick the winners in each week's games. Knowledge of football is not required.
Fourteen folks have indicated an interest in playing this year. I'd like to get to eighteen. If you are mildly interested, please mark this thread. If you would like to play (and be reminded of what you need to do and when) please post here or pm me. Thank you.
Count me in! That is, if I can remember. A bit of prompting certainly would not hurt. Along with all the other stuff I wind up doing, I also run the local fantasy league. Ours is a bit different from most, though. Proceeds from entry fees all go to local charities, with each team playing for their favorite. Makes it quite a lot more fun that way, I think.
Thanks, cowdoc, for agreeing to play. Interesting story about your fantasy league.
So I started to put things together this afternoon in various forms that I have devised: games scheduled down one column, players' guesses across the top and scoring on another page with other info. I fear I may have lost one player. I got the ones who came in via posting on this thread but I may have lost a pm. We will find him/her. I hope.
For purposes of identification each of us has been assigned a jersey number. Yall don't need to remember it, but you might like to know what number I am embroidering on the official A2KNFL jersey I am sending to each of you on Monday. I will finish that task soon.
Anyone else interested in playing is invited to post!
I ain't gonna be number 41!
wait can i start trash about my horns???? i got a little into on a thread that had nothing to do with football. i realize its college but cmon, we are playing ohio state soon, and i am feeling awfully burnt orange these days...
