According to the story, a computer was asked to translate the English proverb "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." into Russian--and then back into English.
The computer's translated/retranslated version:
"The vodka is good but the meat is rotten."
Does anyone have any good sites for translating English into other languages?

That's a
legend from 1999
I always go to
www.freetranslation.com but on another post I learnt about
www.ultralingua.net and it seems good too.
Yes, but of course are these translators only for words. Sentences won't be translate correct.
The problem mostly lies in synnonyms and words with double meanings.
I always use worldlingo... it even helped me with a biochemistry article and worked like magic!
WorldLingo
If you don't have a sufficient grasp on the language already, online translators will do you more harm than good. That being said, I mainly use google's translator
Google Language Tools
Webster has a capability to pronounce words. Don't you know a French online dictionary with the same option?
This not a on-line translator but a very useful tool to french phonetics :
phonetics
A lot of (online) dictionaries and encyclopedias (a couple with [printed] phonetics) are to be found at
ÉCOLE DE LA LANGUE FRANÇAISE
my friend who didn't have enough to do at work used to spend all her time, at one stage, translating absurd sentences back and forth just to see the evolution of the phrase. She did get some amusing things sometimes.
Thank you for the above websites Walter and Francis.
Am reaching a point with French where little things make a world of difference.
merci beaucoup!

You are welcome.
what is the English to Latin translation of the saying "love conquers all"?
soccamon--
Welcome to A2K.
If I were you, I'd put my query in a new thread rather than piggybacking on this old one. More people will see a new thread than will see an entry on this one.
translate in latin:' born to be a king, born to be evil, born to be dark king.'
thank you
Theares--
I'd post your question in a new thread rather than piggy-backing on this one. You'd be much more likely to get an answer.
OH no Noddy!!
Theares had already posted his question in four threads! (and he got an answer)
Francis!
Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I!
Mud, mirk and despair.
Arragha!
