@edgarblythe,
When we were kids, we lived in the city, but our mother expected us to go out to the farms to earn money. The only other people we saw laboring in the fields were us Japanese, Mexicans and blacks. Caucasians were usually the owner or foreman. Since much of the income was derived by how many boxes of fruit you harvested, it was hard labor. I also did what is called "swamping." It's riding on the back of the truck, catching the full box of fruit, and stacking them on the bed. We trade turns on the truck or on the ground, and got paid .01c a box. Lazy people couldn't handle it. Out of our earnings, we had to pay for rent and food.
Most people who criticize Mexicans or blacks being lazy don't know what they are talking about.
