I just acquired a picture taken of the children of two of my oldest and closest friends. The kids went to the prom together. What a hoot!

Rae, you darlin' thing. So glad you're back on board. Oh, I remember both my kids' proms--first dates--I even remember mine. I also remember calling you a shameless wench with a handsome young man.

Wow! I'm glad I couldn't sleep tonight.

Diane, If you and dys get an RV you will love it. We had a class B motor home for a while then moved up to a class A. It was our home away from home.

Misti, you and Rae won't get any sleep either. I know I didn't on that momentous occasion.

Later all....yawns returning.............................................

Hi there, Rae!!!! How was the date??????

We got home from Denver yesterday so I did not see your post in time to keep my fingers crossed for Dougie. But I know he couldn't do wrong. He is such a great guy. Give him a big hug!

We missed you in Denver... but yes, we could feel your spirit :-)

You guys crack me up!

Okay, here's the rundown.....(professional pictures were taken and as soon as I can get my hands on one, I will post it.)

I swear, my son is amazing. I've said it before and I'll say it again ~ that child is my legacy to this world ~ and I hope the world will appreciate him as much as I do.

Anyway.....

The only thing he told his date was that he would be picking her up between five and five-thirty. My first question was 'how did she look?' and all Dougy could say was 'ohmygod'. The young lady's name is Bella, by the way and she is just lovely.

When he arrived at her house he presented her with a corsage, then escorted her to their chauffered Lincoln ~ which blew her away. She knew they were going out to dinner, but wasn't expecting the restaurant that Dougy chose ~ as I said before, it is one of the most exclusive restaurants in our area.

Ya'll wanted details, so get settled in.....

They got one of the best tables in the restaurant and both ended up ordering the same exact meal ~ my son it took that as 'a sign'. I refused to burst his bubble and happily agreed with him.

After they ordered their dinner, the waiter came back to the table to inquire if they would be interested in dessert and he went on to explain the evil treats available. My son, God bless him, not knowing said 'sure'.

When they were finished with their dinner, the waiter appeared and asked if they were ready for their dessert. I can picture the look on Dougy's face while he explained to the waiter that they'd had plenty to eat and didn't think they could eat any more.

The waiter explained that he made the assumption that they had agreed to dessert ~ and of course it was a dessert that had to be pre-ordered because of the length of time it took to make.

So, Dougy said 'sure, bring it on'. Bella said that it had better be the best cake she'd ever tasted because she felt bad that they'd gotten suckered into it.....Turns out they ate half of it and and agreed that it was heaven on earth.

On to the homecoming dance.....

My son can dance like it's nobody's business ~ I don't know where he gets it from because I simply don't dance (it's humorous if I even try) and his father only thinks he can dance, but he looks like an idiot when he does. Dougy has never danced at a formal gathering so he was a nervous wreck and he told Bella as much. Well, she dragged him out onto the dance-floor and there they stayed for three hours! And Dougy had a ball!

I asked him what happened when he brought her home and he said that he felt more comfortable being a gentleman and seeing her safe inside. Aside from that, he wasn't sure if they had gone to the dance as friends or more than that so he didn't want to do anything except to thank her for a wonderful evening.

Well, my kid got the shock of his life.....Picture him ~ he's 6'2" and weighs 230.....Miss Bella barely reaches 5'4" and probably weighs one hundred pounds soaking wet.....

Dougy didn't have time to think about giving her a kiss good-night because she jumped up to his shoulders and gave him a huge hug ~ that lasted longer than Dougy was expecting. Bella thanked him profusely for such a wonderful evening.....

Now the dilemna is that Dougy is smitten with her and doesn't know what to do. When I spoke with him on Sunday he was a nervous wreck for two reasons.....His golf team had a match on Monday depending on the weather. The last thing he wanted to do was play golf ~ he wanted to be at school and work the grapevine to find out where he stands with Miss Bella.

I've yet to find out if his match was rained out or not.....

But, I have made a tentative 'date' with Dougy ~ and Bella if she wants to join us for dinner and a movie over the weekend.

Thank you all so much for responding with your own memories ~ they have meant the world to me.....And I'm sure Dougy will feel the same when he gets to read this thread.

I can't say it enough ~ God has blessed me beyond belief with my son. He's a good boy with great potential for being a good man and I am so proud of him I could bust.

Once again ~ as soon as I get the official homecoming picture I will post it.

Please keep your own personal stories coming ~ ya'll know I love hearing about your experiences.

Be good ya'll and don't forget to smile!

Love,

Rae

Now that's what I call a first date that rates. My word, puts our homecoming dance in line with a sock hop. Hee hee. You most assuredly have a fantastic son, Rae.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! If I haven't mentioned it already, God blessed me to infinity by trusting in me enough to give me my son.

I've had to work at my second job the last three nights so I haven't gotten an update from Dougy ~ I will call him first thing tomorrow and drill him.....cuz that's my job, ya know.

I just found out that I have the entire weekend off from my second job, so Dougy and I are looking forward to getting together for dinner or a movie ~ to which Bella has already stated that she would like to tag along. I am so looking forward to meeting her.....but I'm even more excited about seeing my son. I've told him about a million times how proud I am of him, but it needs to be said again.

I promise ~ as soon as I get their homecoming picture, I will post it

In the mean-time.....Even if we have to go off-topic, I would love to hear about everyone's best/worst dates.

I'm going to bed folks ~ hope ya'll had a great day and will sleep soudly.

Love,

Rae

P. S. I know there are more stories out there to be told ~ please keep'em coming!

Xale ~ you're in good company here ~ if you bore us to tears, we'll let ya know. In a nice way of course!

One thing I forgot to mention about Dougy's date ~ and it is the most important part.....

When he and Bella decided that the dance was over (at least for them) they left the convention hall and sat on a bench outside while they waited for the driver.

My son said that it was the best part of the evening for him ~ just the two of them ~ talking.

Be good ya'll.
