DETROIT (AP) - A request by Michigan Republicans that filmmaker Michael Moore be charged with violating election law has found little sympathy among county prosecutors.

The DA's don't want to spend taxpayer's money on frivilous charges. Sounds like a good conservative policy.

You're lashing out. I'd mellow down just a bit if I were you.

This reminds me of when Bill O'Reilly and FOX attempted to sue Al Franken because he used "fair and balanced" in his latest scathing editorial on the lies of the rightwing spin machine. It skyrocketed his book to #1 and kept it there for a while.

The GOP just doesn't GET it. They don't GET that everytime they attempt to go after Michael Moore, it only increases his stature and popularity.

You seem to not get it either. You just seem very angry at this point.

"increases his stature and popularity" with who? The idiots that feed off his teat aren't going to suddenly not like him, and those that already despise his grotesque distortions will continue to know hime for what he is.

Such an irrational fear of Michael Moore only fortifies that he's right and he is influencing voters even if the gag gifts are construed to mean a bribe -- such foolishness just goes to prove that there are children who have been left behind. One of them is in the White House.

My son has done his duty and spent a year in Iraq. He is due out in February of 2005. They have now told him that he will be deployed back in December and that his military career has been prolonged. He does not want to go back. He has lost 25% of his hearing and he has the shakes. I am very concerned for him as he has been home from base (Colorado Springs) for 3 weeks and all he did was drink. I suspect he might be doing some sort of drug. His wife and child are leaving him. This is what he has to be thankful for after serving his country. He is Canadian by the way. He thought by enlisting in the Army he was doing what was right for himself and his family. Now it seems like he is being punished. The army owns him and does whatever they want with him. I am on a mission to save him from going back to a country we have no business being in. As Commander and Chief of Specialist Jason A Morgese, I will not let him go back there. And I will let George know that I will prevail.

Sincerely,
Brenda L Morgese

"I'm in a bunker in Mosul, Iraq, getting mortared daily..."

Subject: Soldiers helping the children of Mosul, Iraq

Friends,

I wanted to apprise you of a few things that might help you understand some of my fears and frustrations.

Did you know that American citizens at the Republican National Convetion last night were wearing band-aids with Purple Hearts on them to mock veterans (i.e. Kerry) who were lightly wounded? I'm in a bunker in Mosul, Iraq, getting mortared daily, and I have to watch my countrymen wearing Purple Heart Band-aids and getting coverage on CNN, MSNBC, and FOX?

Did you know that two nights ago, our combat support hospital took in two casualties from an IED (improvised explosive device, a road side bomb)? One kid had two broken legs, a broken arm, broken ribs, and a punctured lung. The other kid was trapped in the vehicle and burned to death. Have you ever seen a burnt human body? It's a sight you won't forget and the smell never leaves you.

I wish I could reach out to those fine Americans at the Republican National Convention and make then see what I've seen; I would show them all of the wounds and injuries our surgeons, nurses, and medics have treated. American soldiers are dying over here, and those at the convention have the temerity to mock us? While the balloons drop and the banners wave, somebody's son is taking fire, somebody's daughter is crying for her mother on our operating room table, and somebody's husband is lying cold in a "pouch, human remains." Will that be enough to convince these model citizens to take off their Purple Heart Band-Aids?

I consider myself a proud ex-pat, along with the 150,000 or so other soldiers in Iraq. Given all that us ex-pats are doing to further democracy in the Middle East, is it too much to ask for a little respect and a vote now and then? When will we be able to have some intelligent debate over real issues: health care, creating more jobs, bringing our boys home, increasing taxes on corporations, etc.?

By the way, if anyone wants to make a difference in the future of Iraq, my unit is working with our civil affiars battalion to collect school supplies for the local schools in Mosul. Apparently, there isn't enough money in the interim Iraqi budget to pay for pencils, pens, and composition books. School starts September 11th. Leave no child behind!

Sincerely,
[Moderator: privacy edit name redaction]

'Fahrenheit' Burns Home-Video Sales Records

By Brett Sporich / Reuters/Hollywood Reporter

LOS ANGELES - Michael Moore's politically charged documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" sold about 2 million combined DVD and VHS units Tuesday (Oct. 5), its first day in release, according to industry sources.

That Day 1 sales figure and projected Week 1 sales of 3 million combined units set the benchmark as the most successful documentary ever released on home video.

While initial home video sales figures for "Fahrenheit" were expected to break records -- considering its $119 million domestic boxoffice take -- industry observers are watching closely to see how the title will sell and rent over time.

Of the units sold Tuesday, about 1.4 million were sold to rental stores, sources said.

Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, which is distributing "Fahrenheit" in the United States, has taken a conservative approach to releasing the title, shipping about 3.4 million combined units to retail and rental stores for its launch week, sources said.

Last week's best-selling DVD and rental title was MGM Home Entertainment's "Walking Tall," which generated about $6.11 million in gross rental spending during its first five days on store shelves, according to Nielsen VideoScan and Video Store magazine research, respectively.

Lions Gate's "Barbie as the Prince and the Pauper" was the nation's best-selling VHS and the sixth-best-selling DVD for the week ending Oct. 3, according to VideoScan. The latest direct-to-video release of "Barbie" is believed to have sold more than 800,000 combined DVD and VHS units during its first five days on store shelves.

Universal Studios Home Video's release of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," starring Jim Carrey, was the third-best-selling DVD and the fourth-best-renting video during the same frame. "Eternal Sunshine" generated about $4.5 million in gross rental spending, or 13.3% of its domestic boxoffice take, according to Video Store magazine.

Apparently, there are some pissed off rightwingers out there who are willing to destroy the merchandise before it gets to the stores:

In the midst of OC conservative communities, I walked into the nearest Pavilion's in Newport Beach and the "F 9/11" display was up front at the check-out.

Too what extent the property damage will be in these OC communities remains to be seen, I guess. But I doubt we'll see the kind of Dixie Chicks style CD burnings that happened a few years back when people were more blindly patriotic (and scared shitless by the Bushies).

Hmmm... That kinda reminds me of another time in history:

Whilst those who can't remove their mouth from George W. Bush's teat won't see the forest for the trees. I wouldn't pronounce them all idiots, however. We'll leave that to the schoolyard name callers.

It is truly sad that McGentrix would consider our U.S. soldiers fighting and dying in Iraq as idiots as well.

As a U.S. soldier, wouldn't you want to know the truth about what is going on in Iraq? Boy, I sure would...

Dookie - What I get is the fact that lawlessness and or the complete disregard for it seems OK with many people like yourself.

the law is quite specific and quite clear, yet, that seems not to matter to Moore and those who support his actions.

The GOP is no better and I do not support anyone who breaks the law---even with a pair of underwear.

Yet, it seems OK by you.

That is probably because you are a partisen who does not look objectively at the activities of the parties and it's supporters.

Nice use of hyperbole. If anyone wants to know the truth, they certainly won't seek out Moore to find it.
