With Blathy, anything other than Pravda is a suspect source.

Sorry McG, but as a student of media, you've got a lot of work to do.

PS to everyone... earlier, I linked this study by the Columbia Journalism Review. It really is essential reading if you wish to understand how the right has become uniquely entrapped in a distinct media environment

Just understanding how Trump has become popular shows their use of the media.

@farmerman,
Had not seen that. But unsurprising. Many hundreds of millions have been pumped into this propaganda campaign and into the coffers of, mainly, the GOP and Republican politicians' electoral machines, as you know.

This sidelining of Fox News in early 2016 coincided with sustained attacks against it by Breitbart. The top-20 stories in the right-wing media ecology during January included, for example, “Trump Campaign Manager Reveals Fox News Debate Chief Has Daughter Working for Rubio.” More generally, the five most-widely shared stories in which Breitbart refers to Fox are stories aimed to delegitimize Fox as the central arbiter of conservative news, tying it to immigration, terrorism and Muslims, and corruption:

@blatham,
From NASA:
The heat-trapping nature of carbon dioxide and other gases was demonstrated in the mid-19th century.2 Their ability to affect the transfer of infrared energy through the atmosphere is the scientific basis of many instruments flown by NASA. There is no question that increased levels of greenhouse gases must cause the Earth to warm in response.
Ice cores drawn from Greenland, Antarctica, and tropical mountain glaciers show that the Earth’s climate responds to changes in greenhouse gas levels. Ancient evidence can also be found in tree rings, ocean sediments, coral reefs, and layers of sedimentary rocks. This ancient, or paleoclimate, evidence reveals that current warming is occurring roughly ten times faster than the average rate of ice-age-recovery warming.3

@cicerone imposter,
Yup. And we could note that the Pentagon has long acknowledged GW and their security planning, where relevant, is based on this understanding of likely future conditions.

When Drunk Driving Deterrence Becomes Neo-Prohibition

Even MADD's founder, Candy Lightner, has lamented that the organization has grown neo-prohibitionist in nature.

"[MADD has] become far more neo-prohibitionist than I had ever wanted or envisioned ...," Lightner is quoted as saying in an Aug. 6 story in the Washington Times. "I didn't start MADD to deal with alcohol. I started MADD to deal with the issue of drunk driving," she said.

Unfortunately, MADD has come to outlive and outgrow its original mission. By the mid-1990s, deaths from drunk driving began to level off, after 15 years of progress. It was at about this time that MADD began to move in a different direction... MADD also seemed to expand its mission to one of discouraging the consumption of alcohol in general — what critics call "neo-prohibition."

MADD is also pushing its agenda onto family laws, including a zero tolerance policy for divorced parents. Under the bills MADD is trying to push through state legislatures, a parent caught consuming one beer or glass of wine before driving could face penalties that, according to MADD, "should include, but are not limited to" — "incarceration," "change of primary custody," or "termination of parental rights." This means that if you take your kid to the game, have a beer in the third inning, then drive home, you could very well lose your rights as a father.

MADD wants to set the BAC which conclusively presumes that you are "drunk" so low that if you stood next to an open beer can and breathed some fumes 5 minutes ago, then you are legally "drunk" with no defense allowed.

@layman,

The organization is also pushing the widespread use of ignition interlock devices, in which a driver must blow into a tube to start his car, then blow again every 20 minutes or so while driving.

There are any number of factors which will produce an inaccurate BAC reading, such as many common medications. If such false readings occurred only one time out of every hundred thousand, then over 4,000 people would have their automobile rendered inoperable every day. That's assuming that every car has one, a requirement that MADD has spent millions trying to enact into law.

They don't want anyone drinking any alcohol EVER.

Just another group of "do-gooders" (aka cheese-eaters) who are fanatically obsessed beyond all reason with their cause. But it does makes them morally superior, of course. They CARE about people--you don't.

@izzythepush,
If bacon is cooked right it is delicious. Try it in a microwave oven. Cooked in a frying pan in its own grease not so good. But even cooked that way it makes very good gravy.

@RABEL222,
In some restaurants, there's a choice between sausage or bacon with eggs. I always get the bacon, but I like mine with all the grease cooked out of them to a crisp. The salt is not good for me, but I love it.

I prefer sausage but hate eggs. Biscuts and sausage gravy with a side of sausage is my favorite breakfast. OK so i'll probably die of a heart attack but will go out smiling.
