I don't remember all and everything from my history class - that's more than 50 years ago.
I didn't specialise in English history either - even not at my English university.
But what I do remember is that "GB" and "Britain" is something different to
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
With your history knowledge, you certainly are aware that the Kingdom of England was only established by the unification of Anglo-Saxon tribes across modern day England about 925. I won't go further, leave out Wales, Scotland and Ireland ... and especially those several hundred independent countries in what is now Germany.
You use the term "nation".
• The
Heiliges Römisches Reich (
Sacrum Imperium Romanum, "Holy Roman Empire") only unofficially got the appendix
deutscher Nation (
Nationis Germanicæ, "German nation") in the late 15th century.
• England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales are the nations/countries of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK).
It would be beneficial to know what you mean with "nation". (There wasn't a German nationality before 1913/1914 although Germany existed since 1871.)
