Here's an example of how propagandists grab at a fact and then try to make it imply something else:

"Just two years after Pulitzer took it over, the World became the highest circulation newspaper in New York, aided in part by its strong ties to the Democratic Party.

Using this fact to indict the press of today is about as ignorant as Gov. Paul LePage's remark a few weeks ago:
Quote:
“John Lewis ought to look at history. It was Abraham Lincoln that freed the slaves.(...) a simple thank you would suffice.”

Neither the Republican Party of 1860 nor the Democratic Party of 1896 bear much relationship to the institutions of today.

While they weren't EXACTLY like today, they were well on their way...

The People's Party, also known as the Populist Party or the Populists, was an agrarian-populist political party in the United States. For a few years, 1892–96, it played a major role as a left-wing force in American politics. It was merged into the Democratic Party in 1896; a small independent remnant survived until 1908. It drew support from angry farmers in the West and South and operated on the left-wing of American politics. It was highly critical of capitalism, especially banks and railroads, and allied itself with the labor movement.[1][2][3]

Established in 1891, as a result of the Populist movement, the People's Party reached its zenith in the 1892 presidential election, when its ticket, composed of James B. Weaver and James G. Field, won 8.5% of the popular vote and carried five states (Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nevada and North Dakota), and the 1894 House of Representatives elections, when it took over 10% of the vote. Built on a coalition of poor, white cotton farmers in the South (especially North Carolina, Alabama and Texas) and hard-pressed wheat farmers in the Plains states (especially Kansas and Nebraska), the Populists represented a radical crusading form of agrarianism and hostility to elites, cities, banks, railroads, and gold.

The party sometimes allied with labor unions in the North and Republicans in the South. In the 1896 presidential elections the Populists endorsed the Democratic presidential nominee, William Jennings Bryan, adding their own vice presidential nominee. By joining with the Democrats, the People's Party lost its independent identity and rapidly withered away.

The terms "populism" and "populist" have been used in the 20th and 21st centuries to describe anti-elitist appeals against established interests or mainstream parties, referring to both the political left and right.

@McGentrix,
Trump doesn't know what he's doing. His directive on ACA only created more confusion. The same thing happened with his ban on Muslims from 7 countries. He's a dolt with too much power. He doesn't understand the US Constitution.
Trump said the media is the enemy of the American people. Digest that if you know how.

OK. One of the leakers has been identified. It's Rory McIlroy, the foreign bastard.

Quote:
After initially saying Trump had only played a few holes, the White House reversed itself Monday after professional golfer Rory McIlroy posted on his website that he had played 18 holes with the president.

"As stated yesterday the President played golf. He intended to play a few holes and decided to play longer," White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders said Monday.

@ossobucotemp,
How dare Rory write a facebook post about playing a full round of 18 holes with Trump after the WH said Trump only played a few holes (because, you know, too busy with important presidenting responsibilities).

Rory McIlroy is an enemy of the people. Sad.

This is encouraging. The Trump base is a lost cause, as we already knew. According to the recent Gallup figures, 87% of Republicans approve of the job he's doing. 8% of Dems approve (who are those people?) Overall, Trump's approval rating, according to these numbers, is 21 points below average at this point in presidential tenures.

But the real kicker is independents.

Only 35 percent approve of the job Trump is doing. That is 23 percentage points lower than the average.
Wash Monthly

I don't see how Trump/Bannon can change that dynamic. Where the base is all zesty for chaos, most citizens do NOT want to see that happening. They wish, I think, to go on with their lives presuming that adults are in charge who will not set to loudly overturning standards and norms or decimating programs that make the nation more equitable and more stable. And the more Trump and Bannon direct their activities to appease their base, the worse they will appear to independents.

Surely GOP strategists understand this. And as Trump's numbers continue to go down from already horrid levels, they are going to be compelled to act even more than presently. And that opens up a whole set of unknowns.

When police first found a hunting guide and his client bleeding from gunshot wounds on a south Texas ranch in early January, everyone on the scene had their stories straight.

The hunters told police they suspected the shooters were undocumented immigrants they had seen on the ranch earlier in their trip. Their story soon jumped into online right-wing circles, thanks in part to Texas Commissioner of Agriculture and Donald Trump ally Sid Miller.

But it was a lie, according to police and, now, a grand jury. Investigators determined that guides Walker Daughetry and Michael Bryant in fact shot at one another by accident, striking Daughetry and hunter Edwin Roberts in the process. Daughetry and Bryant were indicted for third-degree felonies last Wednesday.

Who is going to get the blame this time, Tuvalu?

Nope, no wealth there.

It's a weakness Trump has had all his life: getting his name in the media. He loves the public exposure with his named plastered and mentioned daily.
