I agree - I'm hoping that with the MUCH more favorable map in 2022 that Democrats will indeed pick up seats.

Unfortunately very few state houses changed into Democratic hands so much of the reapportionment will be conducted by the Republican gerrymander machine. If Trump manages to prevent non-citizens from being included in the census results, that could hurt blue states as well.

Biden's got a hell of a job in store, assuming he wins. McConnell will block anything ambitious. The progressive caucus is liable to bolt once they realize that real reform isn't going to happen. If he has nothing to show for his first two years it's hard to see a big swell of Democrats winning in the midterms.

I just call 'em as I see 'em, Cap'n. Other than winning the White House in a squeaker, the party didn't really do that well and without Trump to provoke a reaction at the polls I could see mid-term participation in '22 drop back to its usual low level.

@maporsche,
Indeed I do. That is my entire point.

2022 is likely to be a very bad year for the Democrats.

@Region Philbis,
In three of those states, the votes are coming in 70% Biden. Hard to believe the tallies are going to move back to Trump.

@hightor,
Agreed somewhat - but making ANY president a one-termer is no small matter, especially in this polarized day and age.

I'm going to stop worrying about 2022 for a bit now and revel in the temper-tantrums and the oh-so-soon removal of Donald from the White House.

The party may end up with an electoral college total of 306 and a popular vote edge of over 4 million. I wouldn’t characterize that as “not really doing well”.
There’s a fine line between realism and negativity.

Mr. Biden may end up with that.

The Democratic Party... probably not.

There’s a better chance that he’ll choke on a McNugget or get fitted for an orange jumpsuit long before then.

But they're not always mutually exclusive:

We'll see how things develop but I don't think my position is unrealistic.

OK now. Biden leads in Georgia with 2,449,580 votes (Trump 2,448,484).

Biden's successfully taking back the blue wall state Pennsyvania, narrowly beating Trump:

USAToday: PA: Biden 49.5%, Trump 49.4%

Biden's victory is America's victory, while Trump's victory was Trump's victory alone.

Excuse me if I take your prediction (which I'm sure we'll ALL be subject to hearing about 73,565,924 more times between now and then) and treat it with the exact same value as your previous prediction of 25 years of republican presidential rule --- that is to say, of no value at all.

That will be one for the books. The only impeached former president replaces the former oldest elected president to become the new oldest elected president and the only impeached president to hold two non-consecutive terms of office.

@izzythepush,
Don't be silly. It will be quite easy to for Mr. Trump to appoint a swarm of independent prosecutors and bury the Biden Administration in criminal investigations.

If he hosts a TV show on Fox News for the next few years, he can keep his base rallied to oppose Mr. Biden at every turn, and his base can then see him through the 2024 Republican nomination. After four years of a do-nothing Biden presidency, 2024 should be just like winning in 2016 after the do-nothing Obama presidency.

Outlawing the Democratic Party will put an end to their abuses of power to harm people who don't agree with them.
