House tells Supreme Court that Mueller grand jury material is needed now
Source: Washington Post

A House committee’s investigation of President Trump “did not cease with the conclusion of the impeachment trial,” congressional lawyers told the Supreme Court on Monday, and it would be stymied if the Justice Department continues to withhold grand jury material.

The new filing comes in response to the department’s request that the Supreme Court put aside court orders that Congress receive secret grand jury evidence from Robert S. Mueller III’s special-counsel investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in March upheld a lower-court finding that Congress can obtain grand jury materials in connection with impeachment proceedings — an exception to secrecy rules that typically prevent release of such evidence.

Last week, the Justice Department said the decisions created “serious separation-of-powers concerns” that demand the Supreme Court’s attention and asked that it put on hold release of the information until the court decides whether to get involved.

Don't they feel stupid? That investigation was launched with no evidence through fraudulent leaks saying there was evidence. To change the laws because it is Trump is not going to happen.

Covid-19 failed. Americans ended their lockdown. Glenn Reynolds reported, "I looked on Booking.com and it showed 92% of Hilton Head hotels were booked for Memorial Day weekend. Even for mid-June it was 76%. This suggests a swift recovery, post-lockdown. Or am I missing something?"

Before anyone says anything, it is the author calling it a hoax, not Trump.

Covid-19's failure to bring the president down makes him stronger because no matter what the economy does, it is not his fault. How could it be? We shut the economy down for 2 months. Governors did that.

But if the economy rebounds quickly, he will get all the credit because he strengthened the economy beforehand. 3.5% unemployment gave the economy a solid foundation. He could be easily re-elected even with 25% unemployment because his policies worked before covid-19 came around.

Throughout history dictatorial regimes have abused intelligence resources for political reasons to protect hidden policy agendas. General Flynn was a top Middle East expert, openly wary of Obama’s love affair with Iran and its extremist Muslim regime. #PalletsOfCash #ObamaGate.

Wonder why he is not in the movies anymore? Very smart man.

EXCLUSIVE: The Treasury Department Spied on Flynn, Manafort, and the Trump Family, Says Whistleblower

Quote:
In March 2017, she filed a formal whistleblower complaint with Acting Treasury Inspector General Richard K. Delmar, who continues in that office today, she said. Beyond Delmar acknowledging receipt of the complaint, the inspector general never followed up on the matter.

The complaint. She knew this was illegal not going through proper channels that required the AG signing off on it. That did not happen.
Quote:
By March 2016, the whistleblower said she and a colleague, who was detailed to Treasury from the intelligence community, became convinced that the surveillance of Flynn was not tied to legitimate criminal or national security concerns, but was straight-up political surveillance among other illegal activity occurring at Treasury.

“When I showed it to her, what she said, ‘Oh, sh%t!’ and I knew right then and there that I was right – this was some shady stuff,” the whistleblower said.

“It wasn’t just him,” the whistleblower said. “They were targeting other U.S. citizens, as well.”

Only two names are listed in the whistleblower’s official paperwork, so the others must remain sealed, she said. The second name is Paul J. Manafort Jr., the one-time chairman of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

The other names include: Members of Congress, the most senior staffers on the 2016 Trump campaign and members of Trump’s family, she said.

This complaint should be easy to find. Who is the Treasury IG? Delmar. Will he be employed much longer?

Trump on Pompeo: I'd rather have him working than doing dishes 'because maybe his wife isn't there'
Source: TPM

By John Bowden - 05/18/20 06:11 PM EDT

President Trump responded Monday to criticism of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's recommendation that Trump fire a State Department inspector general (IG) who was investigating Pompeo for misuse of government resources, telling reporters he would rather Pompeo assign government workers to wash his dishes or perform other tasks in order to free up time.

Speaking with reporters at the White House, Trump defended Pompeo as a "high-quality person" and a "brilliant guy," while suggesting that the nation's top diplomat had assigned government employees to perform household tasks because his wife or children were not around.

"[N]ow I have you telling me about dog walking, washing dishes and you know what, I’d rather have him on the phone with some world leader than have him wash dishes because maybe his wife isn’t there or his kids aren’t...you know," Trump said.

Linick was overseeing an active investigation into whether or not Pompeo misused a political appointee at the State Department to run errands for both the secretary and his wife, as well as a separate probe into whether Trump illegally issued an emergency declaration in May 2019 to move ahead on weapons sales to Saudi Arabia without congressional authorization...................................

@coldjoint,
It's clear from her poll results that her sample was neither random nnor representative. It's statistically flawed and useless, but you seemingly know nothing of statistics. No surprise there. Math is apparently not one of your strong suits.

What you don't seem to understand is that there is no sensible reason for you to post it since it's useless.

@MontereyJack,
The bulk of your own posts are purely repetitive propaganda.

That means, you're actually not thinking about your posts, rather than seeking approval for an opinion you've formed, from the thinking and writing of others.

Do you have any original thoughts on how the situation you're currently experiencing in your life, became something you're willing to openly attack, and ridicule, on a daily basis?

Does “The Case Against Socialism” Hold Up?

It does not. A brief look at Rand Paul’s new book.

Quote:
As the author of a recently-published book called Why You Should Be A Socialist, I was pleased to receive a copy of Rand Paul’s The Case Against Socialism. In my book, I claim that most critiques of the left fail miserably and I imply that the phrase “conservative intellectual” should be treated as oxymoronic. But here, at last, we have something meaty to respond to: a book by a sitting U.S. Senator—a medical doctor no less, and the child of one of America’s most famous Libertarians—claiming to prove the anti-socialist case definitively over the course of 40 chapters. I confess, I was slightly worried when I saw it: What if The Case Against Socialism made Why You Should Be A Socialist look ridiculous? What if its arguments left me speechless? What if I was, to use the expression of our age, “destroyed”? I had better be able to deal with Paul’s case against socialism.

I am pleased to inform you that the socialist position survives The Case Against Socialism. In fact, as we shall see, if you’d like to convince someone that the arguments against socialism are bad, you may as well give them the Pauls* book rather than my own. But you should really only inflict it on someone you truly dislike. For it is a horrible book. It makes for painful reading. It does not make a case against socialism, but it does make a convincing case against nepotism.

Let us go through The Case Against Socialism chapter by chapter, to see how the case is made and evaluate its claims.

And, chapter by chapter, he eviscerates the senator's book.

More than 40,000 National Guard members currently helping states test residents for the coronavirus and trace the spread of infections will face a “hard stop” on their deployments on June 24 — just one day shy of many members becoming eligible for key federal benefits, according to a senior FEMA official.

The official outlined the Trump administration’s plans on an interagency call on May 12, an audio version of which was obtained by POLITICO. The official also acknowledged during the call that the June 24 deadline means that thousands of members who first deployed in late March will find themselves with only 89 days of duty credit, one short of the 90-day threshold for qualifying for early retirement and education benefits under the Post-9/11 GI bill.

The looming loss of crucial frontline workers, along with questions about whether the administration is shortchanging first responders, would require a delicate messaging strategy, the official — representing FEMA’s New England region — told dozens of colleagues on the interagency call.

“We would greatly benefit from unified messaging regarding the conclusion of their services prior to hitting the 90-day mark and the retirement benefit implications associated with it,” the official said.
Politico

And all those working in delivering essential services are HEROES who must not be allowed the right to seek damages from their employers if their employment results in covid infection.

Good government is:
1) facilitating corporate profit-taking
2) unified messaging
