@coldjoint,
says the person who persists in posting in illegible pink. Five centuries ago they standardized on black on white because that produced maximum contrast and legibility. But you in your arrogance ignore five centuries of wisdom.

@coldjoint,
Are we currently at war with every Muslim nation and all Muslims? Have they all been at war with us unceasingly for fourteen hundred years? No. Which means your contention that jihad is obligatory is nonsense. As is your islamophobia. and you still post arrogantly in illegible pink.

Islam has been at war with everything and anyone non-Islamic since its inception. It tells you so.

Noble Qur’an 2:190 Footnote:“Jihad is holy fighting in Allah’s Cause with full force of numbers and weaponry. It is given the utmost importance in Islam and is one of its pillars. By Jihad Islam is established, Allah’s Word is made superior (which means only Allah has the right to be worshiped), and Islam is propagated. By abandoning Jihad Islam is destroyed and Muslims fall into an inferior position; their honor is lost, their lands are stolen, their rule and authority vanish. Jihad is an obligatory duty in Islam on every Muslim[/b]. He who tries to escape from this duty, or does not fulfill this duty, dies as a hypocrite.”

@coldjoint,
Pay attention: WEHAVE NOT BEEN AT UNCEASING WAR WITH ISLAM FOR 1400 YEARS, SO NO MATTER WHAT YOU AND YOUR ISLAMOPHOBE SITES SAY, OR WHAT THE PARTICULAR SECT AND INTERPRETATION SAY, IN ACTUAL FACT JIHAD IS NOT BLIGATORY OR PRACTICED. That is not to say that particular sects think differently but they are a very small part of Islam. It is also not to say that we are not very popular with a lot of Islam because we have done some pretty shabby things to Islamic countries which they resent. But we're not at war with them. They are in fact often our allies.

@coldjoint,
Also what jihad means in Arabic is open to interpretation differently. the ideal is
to read the Koran in Arabbic, cecause the glosses in other language mistranslate it. Jihad is also translated as more like persuasion than war. That's why the ideall is to read the Koran in Arabic, because translations can mistranslate it. If you've dipped into the biblical threads on a2k, you know they argue endlessly about what the words mean in English, vs Greek vs Latin vs Aramaic vs Hebrew vewrsions. Same with the Koran.

Remember, of course, that Saudi Arabia are fake arabs.

@MontereyJack,
And yet, you don't call on any of these nations for military support, do you?

Preferring the ANZUS and UK alliance, right?

G W Bush actually had to tell Pakistan, that if you're not our ally, we're gonna smoke you bigtime.

Vote drama is not welcome either (e.g. mass downvoting a user you're feuding with, or complaining at length about voting). Voting abuse will periodically be reviewed and users guilty of it will either be suspended or will have their votes stop counting.

QUITE a bit of voting abuse going on here. Hey admins, will you enforce 'the rules' as they are written?

Pulitzer winner Chris Hedges: These "are the good times — compared to what's coming next"

Quote:
Empires fall a little bit at a time and then all at once. Over the last two decades, America has proven itself to be well along on that journey. The coronavirus pandemic has simply pushed our nation further along that downward spiral.

Ultimately, the pandemic has further exposed and exacerbated — for those still somehow in denial about the decades-long reality of America as a decaying empire — deep political, social, economic, cultural and other societal problems.

The country's infrastructure is rotting. Trump presides over a plutocratic, corrupt, cruel, authoritarian, pathological kakistocracy. The commons is being reduced to rubble while the ultra-rich extract ever more wealth and other resources from the American people. Excessive military spending has left the United States incapable of attending to the basic needs of its people. A culture of distraction and spectacle has rendered many Americans incapable of being responsible engaged citizens. Our public educational system does not teach critical thinking skills. Radical right-wing Christians, white terrorist organizations and other neofascist paramilitaries and extremists are engaging in a campaign of thuggery, intimidation and violence against multiracial American democracy.

Writing at the Atlantic, George Packer described this woeful state of affairs:

The crisis demanded a response that was swift, rational, and collective. The United States reacted instead like Pakistan or Belarus — like a country with shoddy infrastructure and a dysfunctional government whose leaders were too corrupt or stupid to head off mass suffering. The administration squandered two irretrievable months to prepare. From the president came willful blindness, scapegoating, boasts, and lies. From his mouthpieces, conspiracy theories and miracle cures. A few senators and corporate executives acted quickly — not to prevent the coming disaster, but to profit from it. When a government doctor tried to warn the public of the danger, the White House took the mic and politicized the message.

Every morning in the endless month of March, Americans woke up to find themselves citizens of a failed state.

Read the interview here. I'm not a big fan of Hedges — too much moral purity for me — but the potential of a steep decline is worth pondering.

Some 70% of the Albanian population is Muslim, and in North Macedonia Muslims constitute a bit less than 40% of the population.
Both countries are NATO countries, too.

It never seems to occur to a certain percentage of those downvoted were voted down because everybody acting independently decided they were wack jobs.

Here’s why I can’t tolerate Trump supporters:
They see him say one thing.
Then they see him deny saying it. Or see him claim he was being sarcastic, when clearly he wasn’t.
And they accept it.
Do they just not care?
Are they that steeped in denial?
Or are they really that stupid?
