@blatham,
I think he’s going to read a statement that will be an attempt at creating the impression that he is taking COVID-19 seriously.

His very early travel ban already proved he does take it very seriously. Biden would be playing with blocks. Killary would be thinking how her foundation could profit from it. And then get drunk.

OK. Greg Sargent is now talking about the pandemic and the election.

I wrote to Greg and some others early today on this matter but I've no reason to imagine it wasn't on his mind already. Ari Berman, who's one of the best sources on election issues, and Ron Wyden have started focusing on this as well (as you'll see in the piece linked above).

President Trump, in an explosive tirade Monday, urged Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to encourage Federal Reserve Chair Jerome H. Powell to do more to stimulate the economy, three officials familiar with the exchange said, revealing the president’s mounting fury as his administration struggles to corral economic fallout from the novel coronavirus.

Trump has frequently complained about the Fed in public for at least two years, but his latest effort to pressure Mnuchin to privately push for action has not been previously reported.

During that tense Monday meeting in the Oval Office, Trump fumed that Powell never should have been appointed and is damaging the nation and his presidency...

I'm not sure what is going to happen to this guy psychologically. He's so far over his head and his usual strategies of bullshit, bombast, slanders/insults and bullying have no utility now.

He will be dealing with all of that until early 2025. You should wish him luck.

Alex Jones is telling his viewers that the toothpaste he sells kills coronavirus
Jones: “The Pentagon uses the product we have.”

Quote:
...Following the outbreak of a novel strain of coronavirus in December, Jones has used his media outlet Infowars to promote products from the Infowars online store to his supporters, including pushing conspiracy theories to sell bulk food packages at inflated prices and claiming that the supplements he sells will stop the spread of coronavirus.

Another in a long, long, long line of right wing scams. Jim Bakker just got sued by the FDA for a similar scam and Jones is just asking for it. I'm sure he'll get it. Financial penalties for this sort of thing during a pandemic aren't enough. Jail, significant time would be just.

The Virus Doesn’t Care About Your Narrative

Quote:
But I’m telling you, folks, I have — there’s so many red flags about things happening out there. This coronavirus, they’re just — all of this panic is just not warranted. This, I’m telling you, when I tell you — when I’ve told you that this virus is the common cold. When I said that, it was based on the number of cases. It’s also based on the kind of virus this is. Why do you think this is “COVID-19”? This is the 19th coronavirus. They’re not uncommon. Coronaviruses are respiratory cold and flu viruses. There is nothing about this, except where it came from, and the itinerant media panic that — you can’t blame people reacting the way they’re reacting, if they pay any, even scant attention to the media.

If you read just two or three media headlines a day — pick one, pick two, pick three at random — you’re going to think that if you leave your home you’ve got a good chance of dying — and you don’t. But I can’t — there’s no way we here can stop a panic. There’s no way we can talk sense into a panic. I wouldn’t even try. But I’m telling you, just — to me, this is just a gigantic series of question marks and red flags, all this stuff that is — it’s just the timing of it, the objective — the gleeful, gleeful attitudes in the media about this, the gleeful attitudes that Democrat leaders have about this.

I’ll tell you what’s really more scary than anything, is how the American people — some Americans, I don’t know how many it is, seem to be okay with being told they can’t do this, and they can’t go there and you’ve got to stay here, and we’re gonna quarantine you there, and we’re gonna wrap you up over there, we’re gonna put you in this cocoon here, and you can’t leave and you — “Okay, okay, fine with me!” No, not okay.

And that is what that guy thinks. A lot to agree with.

@coldjoint,
The progressives' happiness over this virus is indeed unseemly. Progressives are bad people.

But everyone should take the virus seriously. It's going to kill a lot of people. We may lose some a2k regulars to this virus. And quite a few of us are going to lose at least one friend or family member.

Contact with others is going to be a bad idea this year.

@blatham,
The press conference was written as well as it could be given everything that has gone on. Of course he pushed three things:

we have the strongest economy in the world (thanks to me implied)

we took immediate action in blocking people from china (which he says in EVERY statement on covid because it's the only thing he did right)

stop politicizing the issue (meaning, stop any critical appraisals of what we've done and are doing or will do

The rest was a list of steps being put into play to mitigate economic consequences. Nothing much at all regarding specifics on testing etc

Others may have picked up on things I missed. I'll note when I see such.

@oralloy,
No one is happy that others might get sick, really really sick or die. We all have families, you might not like a few of your family members but I'm sure you wouldn't want them to get sick or die. I would get no pleasure if you get sick, but it's very disappointing to hear you claim progressives are happy about this pandemic. You seem to think I'm a progressive (however, I don't really know what that means to you) and I'm not happy about this pandemic. It's foolish to assume that a bunch of people might die but "what the hay" at least it makes Trump look bad. Trump is in way over his head and he doesn't trust the experts, I don't want him to look bad....I freaking want him to do his job and stop treating this country like a Bullshit Reality Show i.e. The Apprentice and prancing around like a preening peacock.
