@coldjoint,
Leadership is required in the success of any organization. Beyond that Walter is simply playing with the arcane details of parliamentary government , with distinct Heads of State and political Prime Ministers. Walter's protests notwithstanding, the present German government does indeed provide some form of leadership.

Try nit-picking.

I hate to admit it, but that what I really fear. (Only very recently the right wing nearly succeeded to do in Thuringia - as was done there already in 1930.)

@coldjoint,
I have used that term with Walter and it is partly true. However he's not a bad guy (we've met and have dined together) and I like him. He just likes to stick his finger in the eyes of his opponents here. Most of us here do things like that as well.

It is not the right wing you need to worry about.

The Federal Chancellor is considered the most politically powerful German official.
Although some even call it a "Chancellor democracy", what we've got here, the Federal Chancellor is only in third place in German protocol rankings after the Federal President (as head of state) and the President of the Bundestag.

I agree. I have responded in kind since day one. I would never try to pick anyone's friends, but mine.

I was responding to your "Your country is headed in that direction again." and explicitly noting that nearly the very same what happened a couple of days ago in Thuringia happened there, too, in 1930.

Was there populism in the 30's? You might be confusing the reasons. What happened in Thuringia?

@Walter Hinteler,
Authoritarian tyrannies have existed across the political spectrum - they are not merely from the right or so called conservative groups. Indeed it is the would be progressive reformers of mankind who historically have done the most harm to humanity - as the history of the unlamented 20th century so amply illustrates, (There was nothing really conservative about Hitler or Nazism: it is merely incidental that their greatest foes in their early days were the German Communists. However I view that as merely a struggle between two equiqualently hateful authoritarian forms of tyranny.)

As said: more or less the same as a few days ago, but in 1930 the Nazis really moved into government for the first time.
(But in Thuringia, the Nazis failed to do what was to succeed throughout the country a few years later: to undermine the democratic state in central positions from within a coalition government - and to restructure it step by step according to their own ideas.)

Isn't that what elections are for, and what politicians and parties do? Sounds like you have a political disagreement. Do these people call themselves Nazis?

I don't think that they are Nazis but when you look at what they say openly - they use Nazi-terms.
I don't know if they (all of them) hate Jews, but anti-Semitism is widespread among the their members and supporters.
The President of the Central Council of Jews had announced that he would leave the country if they got any government responsibility. The Israeli government rejects contacts with the party at all levels.

@Walter Hinteler,
I suspect there may be some self-serving deceits coming from both sides (Israel and Thuringia) in this matter. Not everyone interested in preserving national cultures, family life and individual freedom from intrusive government programs is a Nazi.

Anti-Semitism is widespread in Western Europe. Try again.

Sounds like they are a self hating kind of group heavily influenced by progressive bullshit.
