"Beds are Burning" made them famous. Ironically they are an Australian group. Also Builder is from Down Under.

The weather people say that all sorts of wintry Armageddon is about to come crashing down on me. So if I suddenly disappear for awhile it is probably because my power is out.

I do have a small generator to run the well pump/furnace/refrigerator, but there is no way that I'm subjecting my computer to that surge fest.

@glitterbag,
Good idea. Coldjoint can speak for me in my absence, should such an absence occur.

@coldjoint,
I did know Builder’s location. I read the bio on the band.

Glad to be introduced to them.

@Lash,

The lead singer had a crack at politics, but it was a bumpy road for him.

Their lyrics were iconic for the days of our youth.

Quote:
Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said of Oman, the Arab world's longest-serving ruler, has died aged 79.

The sultan deposed his father in a bloodless coup with British support in 1970 and set Oman on a path to development, using its oil wealth.

Widely regarded as popular, he was also an absolute monarch and any dissenting voices were silenced.

No cause of death has been confirmed. His cousin Haitham bin Tariq Al Said has been sworn in as his successor.

The former culture and heritage minister took the oath of office on Saturday after a meeting of the Royal Family Council, the government said.

The sultan is the paramount decision-maker in Oman. He also holds the positions of prime minister, supreme commander of the armed forces, minister of defence, minister of finance and minister of foreign affairs.

In the greater scheme of things, the concept of north being "up" is vague and difficult to quantify.

Certainly if "greater scheme" means that the earth is flat.

Nope, no doubt it's a ball, but your inference avoids the infinite concept of the void, which still entrances and confounds the greatest minds of any time that humans have been conscious, Walter.

Opening paragraphs of a much longer article on how Trump is helping IS.

Quote:
The Islamic State (IS) group has welcomed the death of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, the head of the elite Quds Force.

In a statement, it described the general's demise as an act of divine intervention that benefitted jihadists. However, it made no mention at all of the US, which carried out the deadly drone strike against Soleimani in Baghdad on 3 January.

President Donald Trump's decision to assassinate Gen Soleimani set off a chain of consequences - one of the first was on the unfinished war against jihadists.

Almost immediately the US-led coalition fighting IS suspended operations in Iraq. The US and its allies announced that their main job was now defending themselves.

From a military point of view, they probably had no choice.

@Walter Hinteler,
I thought the greater scheme was increased profits for Australian coal giants.

What's happening in Australia now is Karma in action. They're reaping what they sowed.

Opening paragraphs of a much longer article about other players in the region.

Quote:
Imagine, if you will, a Middle East situation room with four of the region's key leaders who have been watching the recent confrontation between the US and Iran unfold.

At the table is Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman; Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; caretaker Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi; and Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Iran's Lebanese ally, the militant Hezbollah movement.

They've just been listening to what sounded like a "mission accomplished" speech from US President Donald Trump. Most of them, although perhaps not all, are breathing a sigh of relief. But they are scratching their heads about what this turbulent week means for their future.

What is happening now is arson. Over 200 hundred arrested. Tell the truth do not call crime karma. Can you imagine the karma involved in letting your children be raped by Islamists? It is coming.

@Lash,
Quote:
The Dem establishment wants to beat Bernie as much or more than they want to beat Trump.
Exceedingly stupid suggestion.

If Trump wins the next election, the entire Dem "establishment" (such as DNC) will be obliterated and no one's job or standing will be safe. The party will be, in fact, on the verge of collapse, not even to mention what will befall the country and world.

If Sanders gets the nomination and then runs, he will desperately need the organizing capabilities and funding that the DNC provides for Dem candidates everywhere because he'll need as much help from everyone as can be managed. He'll need to keep the House majority and he'll need every bit of energy possible to take the Senate away from McConnell's control. And in order actually change the direction of US politics, he will need a continuation of what happened last election where Dems increased their power in state capitals.

But you keep pushing Dems as the enemy rather than the GOP. It's why nobody trusts you, except perhaps Edgar.
