I think Trumps supporters have latched onto him with a religious fervor much like the Spanish Inquisition. They seem to see this as a battle between good and evil. We seem to be intent to trade on hate, resentment and fear so we will continue to shoot ourselves in the foot.
I believe those qualities are at least equally visible on the other side of the political aisle. Certainly the continuing zeal for various "investigations of Trump - after the legally established process has been completed - strongly suggests that. Moreover the very divisive group identities and values being aggressively pushed by emerging Democrats are certainly indicative of "hate, resentment and fear", among them - factors which are still contributing to increasing divisions in the country. The still growing crowd of Democrat declared Presidential candidates suggests that this will continue and even get worse.
Both sides rationalize their actions by the alleged misdeeds of the other. Nothing new there.
Trump is a loudmouthed vulgarian, but the policy actions he is taking are , in my view, necessary and beneficial.
Democrat voices have been shrill and highly partisan, and they, as a political group, have not yet come to terms with the fact that Trump won the last election, preferring instead a very destructive policy of non-engagement and opposition at every turn in the Congress. So far they have offered nothing concrete in terms of policy and legislation, but a lot of vague, abstract and unachievable "goals" as expressed in the "Green New Deal" and the rhetoric of both current Political leaders and the still growing tribe of declared contenders for the presidential primaries strongly suggests that will get worse.
