This looks promising:

White House Panel Will Study Whether Climate Change Is a National Security Threat.

Quote:
WASHINGTON — President Trump is preparing to establish a panel to examine how climate change affects national security, and will include a White House adviser whose views are sharply at odds with the established scientific consensus that human-caused global warming poses a threat to the nation’s economy, health and security.

According to a White House memo dated Feb. 14, Mr. Trump’s staff members have drafted an executive order to create a 12-member Presidential Committee on Climate Security that will advise Mr. Trump about “how a changing climate could affect the security of the United States.” The memo was first reported by The Washington Post.

The panel would include William Happer, a Princeton physicist who serves as Mr. Trump’s deputy assistant for emerging technologies. Dr. Happer has gained notoriety in the scientific community for his statements that carbon dioxide — the greenhouse gas that scientists say is trapping heat and warming the planet — is beneficial to humanity.

All of a sudden that means nothing? That is what your NYT is saying. What Iyy league idiots they listening to? The science is not settled and was invented to find what they found in the first place. Meaning it has been an achievable goal planned for decades.

@hightor,
Yes. Another winner in a slate jam-packed with the type.

Though it is surely a coincidence that this chap would be in accord with the preferences of the Koch boys and other fossil fuel producers. Just dumb chance.

Edit: I'd wager big money that future analyses of this administration will find that Trump has had almost nothing to do with staffing of his administration's key posts. He doesn't have the background knowledge nor the curiosity to study nor the interest in doing anything other than lining his pockets and self-aggrandizement. The interesting picture, if it comes into clear view, will reveal who has been steering these assignments and what connections those people have.

We need to watch Europe closely. Germany has decided to submit. Is this what we want in America?

Quote:
Although German leaders assured us that their new "hate speech" law would not be used to curb freedom of expression, the law is being used to suppress criticism of Islam. Angela Merkel's Germany is thus enforcing Sharia blasphemy laws, because Muhammad must not be mocked.

It's not a case where he is simply "wrong" because he gets a lot of stuff right. Conservatives often do — but their insights are misdirected. Like this:
Quote:
Feelings outrank rational argument...

(in the context of what's wrong with social media)

But he applies this in a fussy one-sided way as if people representing his point of view would never be guilty of such behavior themselves. This sort of format, a spoken essay, is great for him because he gets to rattle off tried-and-true conservative talking points without having to defend any of his positions. Predictably, it all comes down to 'us vs. them' in the end. And all of 'us' can feel superior to, if horribly beleaguered by, the evil world.

He gave his view on feelings. He is concerned with individual rights.

It might mean a lot less than you think it does. It's not difficult to find a scientist who disputes prevailing explanations of complex physical phenomena.
Dr. Happer's interests lie in "atomic physics, optics, and spectroscopy" so I'm more likely to accept the predominant opinion of climate scientists. If he has evidence or proof to back up his opinion it doesn't appear to have been strong enough to change the consensus among climatologists and geophysicists.

And there's this:

Dr. Happer wrote:
Demonization of carbon dioxide is just like the demonization of the poor Jews under Hitler.

Pursuing denialism is a terrible strategy to combat the Green New Deal. If the GOP don't launch a countereffort to the GND to address climate, the Dems are going to get away with establishing the assumption that socialism is the only way to restore nature.

What the GOP should be doing is showing how the GND is just an excuse to gain support of socialism, that it won't achieve its stated goals, and as such it will just end up greenwashing socialism, since social-economic redistribution/equalization is all the Dems actually care about anyway imo.

53 Percent of Californicators want out:

https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=53+percent+of+californians+want+to+leave&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

What this means for the nation is frightening. It means that even one more de-moKKKer-Rat presidency, and fifty three percent of AMERICANS will want out.

And funny thing... the nations to which an American might want to flee at that time will have all observed what happened. They will only be taking the bright, the productive, the industrious, and the intelligent.

All that will leave back here in the states will be de-moKKKer-Rats and sundry other forms of vermin and wankers. They'll have to change the name of the place and call it Wankria or Loseria or something like that.

And so it begins.

Pelosi asks members to support resolution against emergency declaration
BY RAFAEL BERNAL - 02/20/19 08:41 PM EST 435

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) circulated Wednesday a letter asking members of Congress to sign onto a resolution to terminate President Trump's border emergency declaration.

The resolution, presented by Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) who is the chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHS), will be introduced Friday.

"The President’s decision to go outside the bounds of the law to try to get what he failed to achieve in the constitutional legislative process violates the Constitution and must be terminated," Pelosi wrote in her "Dear Colleague" letter.

Pelosi took the unusual step of sending the letter to both Democrats and Republicans in the House.

Pelosi added that Castro's privileged resolution will move quickly -- it will be reported within 15 calendar days and moved to the House floor for consideration within three days after that. Pelosi noted she hopes the upper chamber will move on the resolution after it's passed in the House.

Trump last month signed a spending bill to keep government open, but added an emergency declaration to procure funds for a border wall that was not funded by Congress. The move was met with strong pushback from Democrats and a handful of Republicans who felt it was an overreach of power.

Pelosi argued in the letter that members have an obligation to uphold the power of the legislative branch.

Castro's bill already has more than 90 supporters, according to a report on Reuters, and is likely to receive ample support in the Democratic majority.

We had picked a leader and a president that reach that statue in life by directing hate toward blacks, Muslim, Latin with dark skins an so on so there is something very wrong and very very sick in our society currently that Trump is bringing out.

It would be nice if we did not have any needs for hate laws not having the history of Germany of murder on a scale never seen before in the history of mankind but the very fact that one damn an not all that bright demagogue can become President seem to show otherwise.

Try reading some of the postings on this and similar websites or watch some of Trump rallies where Trump even offer to pay for the legal bills of anyone who would beat up anti Trump protectors an so on.
