I honestly think Trump's overplaying his response to Pres. Bush's death because his previous behavior around the death of Sen. McCain really made him look bad. I'm glad to see Bush I being remembered for some of the better aspects of his administration and of the old GOP in general but it seems weird to see Trump celebrating someone who upheld values and policies so different from his own.

Pres. Trump wrote:
“What the hell was that, by the way, thousand points of light?” Mr. Trump asked scornfully at a campaign rally in Great Falls, Mont., in July. “What did that mean? Does anyone know? I know one thing: Make America great again, we understand. Putting America first, we understand. Thousand points of light, I never quite got that one.”

@hightor,
I don't think it's weird at all. It's completely congruent behavior for someone who acts solely out of what he perceives to be his short term self interest. He trashed Bush I five months ago because he thought that's what the MAGA hatters wanted at the moment. He's praising him now because he thinks it improves his image generally. Lizard brain transactionalism AKA Trumpism.

@snood,
You're right — I keep forgetting that the guy is a complete narcissist and that most of his supporters don't even notice the contradictions and the glaring hypocrisy.

That's exactly what this rarer species of his followers do, even the one or two of those, who post here.

What exactly is special about your European leaders that put Europe in the toilet? What is wrong with your voters? Cowardice, free stuff, or stupidity. Or all if the above.

It doesn't look like you do. What did he say about Bush 1? Do you have any quotes?

Besides that I didn't mention anything in my response that could lead to your question, besides that ...
You see, coldjoint, there are 51 independent staes in Europe. I'm happy, to know a bit about our president and our chancellor; additionally, less about less about other European heads of state and government leaders.
Not to mention those, who are considered "leaders" as well.

You are well educated about the "leaders" of 35 sovereign states in the Americas, coldjoint.
That's another winning point for you.

Are you angry Europe sucks? Or are you upset no one is doing anything about it? You took a swipe at Trump supporters, I said your voters are worse, they have to be the most misinformed people in the modern world.

Your sovereign states have nothing to do with western Europe being in the toilet.

From what of my responses here over more than 16 years now did you get that idea?

The seven Western European countries are all independent countries - as is the Central European country Germany, where I live.

No, it should be obvious who the pronoun refers to as both Snood and I were discussing Trump and neither of us mentioned Obama.

I've wondered for some time now why, every time Trump is accused of narcissism, you immediately confuse him with Obama. See, Trump is the narcissist, not Obama. Trump Tower, Trump Steaks, Trump University, Trump Fragrance, Trump Spring Water — see the pattern? I know, now you'll claim that you've seen Obama Steaks for sale — and there's where you got confused. The steaks are labeled "Omaha", not "Obama". Simple enough mistake to make; glad I could help clear things up.

What I have gathered from your posts is denial of the situation caused by the massive influx of migrants and Islam. Your historical knowledge in enviable but hardly matters because you have learned nothing from it. What an enemy is, the basics for survival, seems to elude you.

Sure they are, the EU is just there to remind them.

It doesn't matter, what you said describes both of them. How they got that way is another story.
