They cant expect to just get appointed to political office, they have to earn it, just like everyone else.

@roger,
Amazing isn't it. It's gone from 0 - 20% and it can make the fellas look around.

The demographic shift is making itself felt. Slowly for sure, but change is happening.

I'm loving it here. We're in the middle of a municipal election and there are barely any candidates over 35 at the council level (in our area at least). It is wonderful talking to young, enthusiastic candidates for public office. We've always been famous/infamous for having candidates of pretty much all possible genders for mayor going back 20 years. Have had female mayors several times going back many decades - but most were <cough> mature <cough>. The move to a younger and less white council will be very good for us.

How did they do, some mayors are terrible? You do realize their sex doesn't matter. We should be looking for competence.

@coldjoint,
They're not all Hurricane Hazel (12 terms in office) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hazel_McCallion#Political_career

but the female mayors we've had in my years in this part of the province have been excellent - really helped their cities grow and prosper

they are politicians - with all the ego and warts that come with that

and everyone should recognize that competence is not colour, age or gender-based

@ehBeth,
We've had female PMs, and the most prominent player in opposition at this point in our dismal political history, is a Lesbian of Oriental descent.

The "men" don't stand a chance against her sharp mind and incisive rhetoric.

I'd be more than happy to see her in a real leadership position.

The way the LNP are completely alienating the public, she's likely to be the deputy PM next election cycle.

@coldjoint,
As you know, I didn't vote for him. As far as I'm concerned every time you post about him he's pwned you one more time.

And now I'm pissed off as we're still stuck in ******* NAFTA. Not like I'd vote for the federal Liberals anyways. They're too far to the right for my liking.

@blatham,
You mean the Matt Damon who used his influence with the Boston Globe to kill a story on Harvey Weinstein's sexual predation? That Matt Damon?

So simple? Well that's great.

In the US, only 52 women have ever held a Senate seat.
34 have been Democrats and 18 have been Republicans.

In the House (as of 2017), 84 seats are held by women.
62 are Democrats and 22 have been Republicans

How do you account for this difference?

I see the women have not stopped the Democrats from being ethics free. Maybe it is the women who wish to stoop this low? You never know. Shocked

Ad hominem. Irrelevant to the quality of the acting/characterization task. (And aside from that, you haven't accurately described the charge made Here's the ex NYT reporter's account

I gather you found cause to reach for this common fallacy because you were unhappy with the target of the satire. How did you feel regarding Will Ferrel as Bush on his ranch?
