It has happened at least 185 times in the past century.

Quote:
Trump is wrong that G.D.P. growth has not been higher than the unemployment rate in the past century. In fact, it has happened in 185 months since 1948, according to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

Most recently, in the first quarter of 2006, the gross domestic product grew at a rate of 5.4 percent, while the unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in January, 4.8 percent in February and 4.7 percent in March.

The biggest positive gap between the quarterly gross domestic product growth rate and unemployment occurred in September 1950. At that time, the American jobless rate was 4.4 percent, and the gross domestic product increased at 16.5 percent in the third quarter — a difference of 12 points.

But these are some of the very notions underlying this particular brand of American Christianity — one that is bathed in American exceptionalism, stained by racism, and born not of love but of fear and hate.

Yes. And there are clear connections between that breed of southern (mainly) white evangelicals and conservative Catholics of the sort now trying to take Francis down. They are all highly authoritarian and as a group are among the most immoral, cruel, uncaring and ugly humans kicking about.

I was hoping these guys were down and out. I guess I didn't come to terms with the obvious fact that some people (almost all males) believe that either one dominates or is dominated, that this is the only true paradigm in human relations.

@revelette1,
You might be right. But on the other hand, we can watch her stand up and say that black is white without any apparent remorse whatsoever. These people will lie through their teeth no matter what. It is apparently in their nature.

Josh Marshall makes a good point. The economy is continuing to do well, as it has been on an upward trend since the tail end of the Bush admin and the Obama years. We've all seen the graphs. But even given this, and given the traditional electoral benefits that accrue to the incumbent WH administraion from a relatively good economy, Trump's approval is in the toilet and Republicans are facing a meltdown in two months.

Trump's approval is steady. That is one lie. And the meltdown in the Democratic party is more newsworthy. Obama out there flat out lying is not going to help Democrats.

Yes, you lied, cj. Had you said "Trump's approval is steadily in the toilet", you wouldn't have been guilty of your usual lies. But you didn't.

No president has ever been in the negative figures for Year One. The lowest was Ford, at +5, probably because of the support and aid he was giving to the genocide in East Timor. Trump is -15 Net Approval Rating, a position he has pretty much been in since he was "elected".

Who are these people? Repugs, Dems, their supporters, you, Bernie?

That is a given.
